[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *slota from earlier *slopta, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱlop-tā, from *ḱlep-. Cognates include Czech slota, Slovak slota, Old Church Slavonic слота (slota), Ukrainian сльота (slʹota), Belarusian слота (slóta), Serbo-Croatian slota, Bulgarian слота (slota), Lithuanian šlapa, šlapias and Ancient Greek κλέπας (klépas).
