[edit]From Middle English persely, from Old French peresil, from Latin petroselīnum, from Ancient Greek πετροσέλῑνον (petrosélīnon, “parsley”), from πέτρος (pétros, “rock, stone”) σέλῑνον (sélīnon, “celery”). Displaced Old English petersiliġe, which goes back to the same root.
