From Old Galician-Portuguese oonte (yesterday), from *ãoite, from earlier *anoite, from Latin ad noctem (towards the night), from nox (night).[1] Displaced Old Galician-Portuguese eire.

Cognate with Galician onte and Spanish anoche.
