Etymology

Literally, at once. Ellipsis of od pierwszego razu (from the first time), a translation of French du premier coup.[1] First attested in the second half of the 18th century.[1] Compare English at once and Russian сра́зу (srázu).

According to Słownik frekwencyjny polszczyzny współczesnej (1990), od razu is one of the most used words in Polish, appearing 10 times in scientific texts, 3 times in news, 9 times in essays, 23 times in fiction, and 40 times in plays, each out of a corpus of 100,000 words, totaling 85 times, making it the 750th most common word in a corpus of 500,000 words.[2]
