[edit]Etymology
[edit]Uncertain. Probably of Slavic origin, compare Proto-Slavic *mogyla (“sepulchral cairn”), or an expressive creation based on the root moc-. The word found in Slavic languages seems itself to be of foreign origin.[1] There have been attempts to link it to a Gepid word, but this is unlikely. Compare also Albanian gamulë, and Romanian măgură.
