  • IPA(key): (15th CE) /ˈklɛt͡ʃɛci/

Verb

[edit]

klečěti impf (perfective poklečěti)

  1. to kneel

Usage notes

[edit]

Klečěti is in the class of Old Czech stative verbs. Its counterpart, klekati, is a dynamic verb.

Normally, the a/ě variation would be expected, but as Gebauer mentions, the Proto-Slavic -lę- and -ęk- develop into Old Czech usually with -ě- (compared to other words which keep the variation in Old Czech). That's why we don't see the derived words as kľaknúti, kľakati etc.
