klečěti
Appearance
Old Czech
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *klęčati.
Pronunciation
[edit]Verb
[edit]klečěti impf (perfective poklečěti)
- to kneel
Usage notes
[edit]Klečěti is in the class of Old Czech stative verbs. Its counterpart, klekati, is a dynamic verb.
Normally, the a/ě variation would be expected, but as Gebauer mentions, the Proto-Slavic -lę- and -ęk- develop into Old Czech usually with -ě- (compared to other words which keep the variation in Old Czech). That's why we don't see the derived words as kľaknúti, kľakati etc.
