[edit]From Ottoman Turkish and Old Anatolian Turkish قاپو (qapu). Ultimately a derivation from Proto-Turkic *kap- (“to close, cover”). Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰴𐰯𐰍 (kapıg), Uzbek qopi (“door”), Southern Altai кабу (kabu, “net for fish, round seine”), Azerbaijani qapı, etc.
