[edit]From Middle French faire, from Old French faire, from Latin facere. The past historic and imperfect subjunctive stem fi- (fis, fis, fit...) originated in the Latin form fēcī, with metaphony (*/ˈfed͡zi/ > */ˈfit͡s/).
