[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese cullar, colhar, from Latin coclear, cocleāris (“spoon”). The Galician-Portuguese word was influenced by Old French cuiller (French cuiller / cuillère), from the same Latin root. Cognate with Portuguese colher.
