[edit]From earlier çanoira, from Old Spanish çahanoria (Modern Spanish zanahoria), from Andalusian Arabic *سَفُنَّارْيَة (safunnārya), from Arabic إِسْفَنَارِيَّة (ʔisfanāriyya) (compare Libyan Arabic: سفنّاريّة (sfənnāriyya)), from Ancient Greek σταφυλίνη ἀγρία (staphulínē agría).
