[edit]From Middle High German besuochen (“to seek, use, visit, investigate”), from Old High German bisuohhen (“to examine, check, try, inquire”), from Proto-West Germanic *bisōkijan. By surface analysis, be- suchen. Cognate with Dutch bezoeken (“to visit, see”), Swedish besöka (“to visit, go to see”), English beseech (“to beg, enquire”).
