French
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Middle French bannir, from Old French bannir, banir, from Frankish *bannijan, from Proto-Germanic *bannijaną (“to banish”), from *bannaz, *banną (“ban, curse, order, banishment”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰeh₂- (“to speak, say”). More at ban.
Pronunciation

[edit]bannir
- (transitive) to banish
