[edit]Via some other European language, ultimately borrowed from Ancient Greek ἀπάθεια (apátheia, “impassibility”, “insensibility”, “freedom from emotion”), from ἀπαθής (apathḗs, “not suffering or having suffered”, “without experience of”), from ἀ- (a-, “not”) πάθος (páthos, “anything that befalls one”, “incident”, “emotion”, “passion”).
