Possibly from Sanskrit परिपुष्ट (paripuṣṭa, nourished), from परिपुष् (paripuṣ, nourish), with semantic shift over time. Also, possibly from Sanskrit परिप्लुष्ट (paripluṣṭa, burned). See also Old Javanese paripoṣita (do something with great care and assiduity) and Sanskrit परीक्षित (parīkṣita, examined; carefully inspected).
