Reconstruction:Proto-Slavic/bujiti
Appearance
Proto-Slavic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Formed as *bujь (“vivid, outraged”) *-iti, reflecting Proto-Indo-European *bʰowH-éye-ti ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰewH- (“to inflate, to grow”). May have been influenced by the onomatopoeric Proto-Indo-European *bew- (“to blow, to storm”) (compare Proto-Slavic *buřa (“storm”), Proto-Slavic *buševati (“to bluster, to storm”)).
Verb
[edit]*bujiti impf (perfective *buniti)
- (transitive) to drive mad
- (intransitive) to go on a rampage
- (intransitive) to grow, to spread rapidly
