[edit]Etymology
[edit]An e-grade variant of *burdą (“board; edge”). Kroonen prefers to reconstruct the term as *brezdaz, and notes that the loss of the first *-z- in the Old High German form may be via dissimilation in the plural form, *brertira (< *brezd-izō).[1]
