[edit]From Proto-Celtic *ordos (“hammer”) (Old Irish ord, Welsh gordd, Breton horzh) and *wiketi (“to fight”) (Old Irish fichid), from Proto-Indo-European *weyk- (“fight, conquer”) (whence vincō).
