[edit]Borrowed from Byzantine Greek ἀμερμουμνῆς (amermoumnês), from Arabic أَمِير الْمُؤْمِنِين (ʔamīr al-muʔminīn, literally “commander of the believers”), from أَمِير (ʔamīr, “prince; commander”) مُؤْمِن (muʔmin, “believer”).
