Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from English Malacañang, from Spanish Malacañán, from Tagalog mamalakayahan (place of fishermen), or malakayahan (place for fishing), ultimately from lakaya (to fish). A common folk etymology is that the name was a univerbation of maylakandiyan.
