Bild
Central Franconian
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- Beld (less common)
Etymology
[edit]From Old High German bilidi, from Proto-West Germanic *biliþī. The vocalism -i- is regular due to the originally open syllable. The variant Beld may be from an early contraction or due to analogy with words with original -ld, such as weld (“wild”).
