Uncertain. Rómulo Cúneo Vidal said that the word comes from Aymara ari (crag) iqui (place to sleep). Manuel A. Quiroga said that the word comes from ari (phylum) aka (tip). Carlos Auza Arce said that it comes from ari (hill) acca (neighboring).
