[edit]Latinized form of Germanic name suffix -lind, -linde (“tender, soft”), such as Sieglinde and Dietlinde, from Proto-Germanic *linþiz (“gentle, mild”) (English lithe). Found in names such as Old High German Irmilinda and Old Dutch Frithelind. See lind, Linda.
