[edit]From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *b/g-raŋ (“chest”). Related to 應 (OC *qɯŋ, *qɯŋs, “to face, respond”); outside of Sinitic, compare Tibetan བྲང (brang, “chest, breast”), Burmese ရင် (rang, “idem”) (STEDT).
