Inherited from Early Assamese তাই (tai), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀢𑀸𑀏 (tāe, by her), from Sanskrit তযা (tayā, by her (instrumental case)). Cognate with Sylheti ꠔꠣꠁ (tai), Bishnupriya Manipuri তেই.
