Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘦𑘰𑘡𑘜𑘹 (mānaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀫𑀡𑁆𑀡𑀇 (maṇṇaï), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀫𑀁𑀜𑀢𑁂 (maṃñate) (Girnar), from Sanskrit मन्यते (mányate). Cognate with Gujarati માનવું (mānvũ), Hindustani مَانَّا (mānnā) / मानना (mānnā), Sindhi مَڃَڻُ / मञणु, Punjabi ਮੰਨਣਾ (mannṇā) / مَنّنا (mannnā), Bengali মানা (mana), Assamese মনা (mona) / মানা (mana).
