From Aramaic שׁוּשָׁא (šūšā), from Akkadian 𒄑𒊺𒆕𒀀 (šūšum, licorice); compare Arabic سُوس (sūs), and Hebrew שׁוּשׁ (shush); possibly related to Proto-Indo-European *swéh₂dus (sweet).
