[edit]From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (karafs /klps/, “celery”). Akin to Transoxianan Persian obsolete کرویز (karaviz), Central Kurdish کەرەوز (kerewz), Classical Syriac ܟܪܦܣܐ (kerpəsā), Hebrew כַּרְפַּס (karpás).
