[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *žitьje. Cognates include Old Church Slavonic житьѥ (žitĭje), Ukrainian життя́ (žyttjá), Russian житие́ (žitijé) and Polish życie. By surface analysis, жыць (žycʹ) -е (-je).
