Etymology

From α- (a-)θόρυβ(ος) (thóryv(os), noise) suffix for adjectives -ος (-os). A calque of English noiseless.[1] Different sense ("unperturbed, not causing confusion") for the ancient ἀθόρυβος (athórubos) with the same morphology.
