[edit]Ellipsis of Góry Świętokrzyskie (literally “mountains of the Holy Cross”), from góry and świętokrzyskie, a compound of święty (“holy”) -o- krzyż (“cross”) -ski (adjectival suffix) -e (nonvirile plural suffix reinterpreted as neuter singular).
