Saint-Basile-le-Grand is a modern city in La Vallée-du-Richelieu, in Montérégie, in Quebec.
This city is mainly residential and commercial. Recreational tourism activities are mainly: hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Its built heritage has a contemporary charm, depending on the area. The main attractions of this city are, in particular its Vieux-Saint-Basile-le-Grand, comprising many rustic and often posh houses, especially on rue Principale, between Montée Robert and boulevard du Millénaire, bearing witness to the great local history.

[edit]Saint-Basile-le-Grand was founded in 1871. In 1996, Saint-Basile-le-Grand celebrated its 125th anniversary.
The village of Saint-Basile-le-Grand straddles Route 116 and the railway. The centre of the village (intersection of rue Principale and Montée Robert) is 3.5 km (2.2 mi) northwest of the Richelieu River and equidistant from the centre of the Mont-Saint-Bruno National Park. Route 223 runs along the west bank of the Richelieu River. This road turns out to be a beautiful panoramic circuit allowing you to admire the course of the river, its rural area, its built heritage (a hybrid of rustic and modern) and its nautical environment.

[edit]- From Montréal (25 km, time: 28 min. Take the Victoria Bridge (south); take Route 116 (east) to the village of Saint-Basile-le-Grand; at Montée des Trinitaires, turn right and cross the railway.
- From Quebec City (231 km, time: 2 hr 28 min). Take Highway 20 (westbound) to Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil; take the exit 109 ramp from the highway; then take rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste (route 109) (southbound); take Trudeau Road (southbound); take route 116 (westbound) for about 700 m; turn left at Montée des Trinitaires and cross the railway.

Saint-Basile-le-Grand is served by the Montreal-Mont-Saint-Hilaire commuter train station of the Metropolitan Transport Network (RTM). The AMT train departs from Montreal Central Station. Fares and schedules can be found here. The station is located along the Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier road (route 116), in the heart of the village of Saint-Basile-le-Grand.

- 4 Rampe de mise à l'eau (Launching ramp), At Prudent-Robert Park, Chemin du Richelieu (on the banks of the Richelieu River, at the intersection of Montée Robert and Chemin du Richelieu). Ramp generally installed in early May and removed in November. An accommodating ramp for pleasure boaters on the Richelieu River is set up there. A waiting area has been provided for vehicles before they can unload (or reload) their pleasure craft. A public parking lot is available not far from the park, on Chemin Richelieu, at the intersection of Montée Robert (designated area).
- Réseau cyclable (Cycling network). The cycle network reaches almost 20 km of cycle paths and lanes on the territory of Grandbasil. The cycling network is connected to the network of the Metropolitan Community of Montreal (CMM); the portion of the track in Saint-Basile-le-Grand stretches over 10.2 km.
