Kohama Museum

Kohama (小浜) is a small island in the Yaeyama Islands, Okinawa, Japan.

Kohama is a small speck of an island under 8 km² in size, with a population of some 500 people. However, thanks to a large resort hotel and being the setting of NHK TV drama Churasan in 2001, it gets over 100,000 visitors yearly.

The ferry to and from Ishigaki runs about once an hour, takes 25 min, and costs ¥1,220 (one-way). Approximately one ferry per day goes to Taketomi and Iriomote.

  • 1 Hoshino Resort Risonare Kohamajima (星野リゾート リゾナーレ小浜島), 81 570-073-055. The resort that put Kohama on the map, with 148 rooms this is among the largest hotels in the Yaeyamas. However, it's starting to show its age, and it's located at the far end of the island away from the village. ¥20,000 per room.
