Killarney is a small town of around 2,400 people (2016) in the Prairie Mountain region of Manitoba, Canada. Killarney Lake makes up the majority of Killarney's tourism and is the focus of many activities.

[edit]Killarney is an unincorporated community in southwestern Manitoba. The community was an incorporated town before it was amalgamated with the surrounding Rural Municipality of Turtle Mountain to form the Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain. Agriculture is a large part of area economy. Killarney was voted the best retirement town in Canada by Canadian Living Magazine.

[edit]Killarney is at the intersection of PTH 3 & 8, 1 hour south of Brandon and 2½ hours southwest of Winnipeg. Killarney is near the Canada – U.S. border opposite of North Dakota, and is 20 km (12 mi) north of the St. John–Lena Border Crossing (PTH 18/ND 30), which is open 8AM-9PM; or 50 km (31 mi) northeast of the International Peace Garden Border Crossing (PTH 10/US 281), which is open 24 hours.

This was the original residence for the manager of the agriculture demonstration farm built in 1915. Completely refurbished, this heritage site is home to the Killarney-Turtle Mountain Arts Council.

The 1889 Bate Building contains the original Post Office and Store, Granny’s kitchen, pioneer tools, and natural history. The Annex shows a country school, Doctors office, elegant period clothing, archives, homestead maps, cemetery records and war relics. New displays are featured every year.

A large display building will house as many as one hundred engines, ranging from a Ruston-Hornsby diesel that powered the original Manitoba Pool Elevator in Killarney to a one-horsepower unit. Equipment in operation as well as static displays can be viewed.
