Glendive, is a small town in eastern Montana, with a population 4,900 in 2019, which formed around the Yellowstone River. A part of the Lewis and Clark Trail and the Montana Dinosaur Trail, it is the smallest market in the US to have its own television station.

Interstate 94 passes through Glendive. Billings is 222 miles west, and the North Dakota border is 35 miles east. State Highway 16 continues north to Sidney and U.S. Route 2.

  • Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil Museum, 139 State St (take exit 215 from I-94), 1 406 377-3228. Memorial Day - Labor Day: M-Sa 10AM to 5PM; days vary in fall and winter. Largest dinosaur and fossil museum in the United States to present its fossils in the context of a belief in the Biblical creation story. $8 adults, $7 children/seniors.

  • 1 Makoshika State Park, 1301 Snyder Ave, 1 406 377-6256, . Park open daily 7AM to 10PM. Visitor Center: May-Sep: daily 9AM to 5PM; Oct-Apr: W-Su 10AM to 4PM. Rugged badlands covering over 11,400 acres, campground and visitor center, part of the Montana Dinosaur Trail. The disc golf course is a unique way to see the scenery. Free scorecards at the visitor center. $8 per vehicle. Campsites $4-34 per night.
  • Baisch's Dinosaur Digs, 1 406 365-4133, . Reservations only, Apr-Oct. Paleontological day trips. Take home the fossils, petrified wood, and rocks you excavate. Be prepared for serious physical activity - rough badlands, several miles from shelter and paved roads. Weather can be extreme. $120 per person; half day $80; children 12 and under free.
  • 2 Black Bridge Recreation Area (from Glendive, take West Bell Street toward the river, the entrance is adjacent to the historic Bell Street Bridge). A more than 70-acre area offers fishing, hiking, camping and wildlife viewing. Boat ramp to Yellowstone River.
  • Buzzard Day, Makoshika Park, 1301 Snyder Ave, 1 406 377-6256, . Yearly in early June. Celebrate the return of the turkey vulture! Events all day. Disc golf tournament, archery and atlatl stations, performances by Native American dancers and drummers, guided hike. Many activities free.
  • Cottonwood Country Club, 508 Country Club Dr, 1 406 377-8797. Well maintained 9 holes, built in 1962. call for current rates.
  • 3 Jaycee West Park, 1014 W Towne St, 1 406 377-5471, . Open daylight hours. Town park with picnic areas, sand volleyball, skate park, horseshoe courts, tennis courts, and a basketball court. Free.
  • Joe & Dee's, 2802 W Towne St, 1 406 377-2828. Opens 1PM daily, closes M-Th 10PM, F 11:30PM, Sa 11PM, Su 8PM. Bowling, axe throwing, arcade.
