Hi Whatamidoing (WMF)

I don't mind having access to the new reply tool on talk-pages, but having to choose between visual editor and the legacy wiki editor everytime I try to update content on Wikiversity is a distraction, not only for me but for many others, I think? (see Tag: Visual edit: Switched). Is there a way to opt out only on content pages, and if so, is this an opt-in or opt-out system? I hope I making sense? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (discusscontribs) 16:20, 27 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ottawahitech, are you seeing one [Edit] button at the top of every page, or are you seeing [Edit] and [Edit source]? Whatamidoing (WMF) (discusscontribs) 18:15, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
That depends:
on your UP I see Create & Create source
on your UTP I see Edit source & Add topic (true for all talk pages on wikiversity, I think)
on Wikiversity:Browse I see only Edit source
on School:African studies I see Edit & Edit source
on Category:Business learning projects Edit & Edit source
To tell you the truth this whole thing is confusing for me since it looks slightly different on every wiki I visit. I guess I am bad at multiprocessing. I try to concentrate on what I am doing and try to ignore distractions such as the changing landscape around me. For someone like me consistency in the tools I use helps me provide better and more timely info. YMMV. Cheers, Ottawahitech (discusscontribs) 16:08, 13 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Ottawahitech, if you want consistency across the wikis, then I think you should spend a little bit of time in Special:GlobalPreferences. There will still be some differences (e.g., some wikis offer the visual editor in the Wikipedia: namespace, and others don't), but that would reduce them.
At some wikis, but not this one, you can set your prefs to show only your favorite editing environment by default. Look for "Editing mode" in w:en:Special:GlobalPreferences#mw-prefsection-editing. I prefer "Show me both editor tabs", but others prefer visual-only (when it's available for that type of page) or wikitext-only (available everywhere).
