The Swiss Alps Chocolaterie’s design draws inspiration from the Alps mountain range. Hard edges, large planes, and crevices within the building create the experience of being in a mountain through both visual experiences of looking down at the building from high spaces, as well as through the quality of light generated from, and within, these spaces. Located primarily in the basement of the building, the school portion of the institute can be observed from the street and from the levels above through glazed cracks and crevices,. These openings to below also allow for natural light to reach deep within spaces in the interior of the building.
