COVILHÃO, kō̇′vē̇-lyouN′. A town of Portugal, in the Province of Beira, situated on the southeastern slope of the Serra da Estrella at an altitude of 2180 feet (Map: Portugal, B 2). It is commanded by a castle, and is one of the chief centres of cloth manufacturing in Portugal. Population, in 1890, 17,562; in 1900, 15,527.
