Template:Talkback/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Talkback. It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
Purpose
[edit]Many users state that when they get a message, they will respond on your talk page instead of on their own. This makes reading back a conversation quite cumbersome; having to switch talk pages back and forth in order to make sense of the conversation. To this end, you can use this template to notify a user that you have responded to his/her message on your own talk page.
Usage
[edit]Talkback
A template for notifying users that they have messages waiting on other pages
Parameter | Description | Type | Status | |
---|---|---|---|---|
User name | 1 | The username of the recipient. | String | required |
Section | 2 | The linked page or page section | String | optional |
Time stamp | ts | To apply the current time, value should be ' ~~~~~ ' (five tildes). | String | optional |
{{Talkback|your username}} {{Talkback|your username|section}}
To have the links point to a non-user talk page, you must include the full talk page link.
{{Talkback|Talk:page name|section}} {{Talkback|Wikisource talk:page name|section}}
To include a timestamp, add ts=~~~~~
(five tildes).
{{Talkback|Talk:page name|section|ts=~~~~~}} {{Talkback|your username|section|ts=~~~~~}}
Place the code on the talk page of the user you have answered to. The recipient may remove this template from his/her talk page at any time. A link to edit the first section of the talk page is shown within the template. The section
parameter is optional; when you enter the name of the section on your talk page, it will directly link to that section.
Notes
[edit]- If you are going to use this template, please consider putting the {{Usertalkback}} notice on your own talk page:
|
You can do so by copying the following code at the very top of your talk page:
{{Usertalkback}}
- Other versions are possible, such as an asymmetrical one not requiring your interlocutors to use Talkback, provided that you watch their talk page for answers:
|
You can do so by copying the following code at the very top of your talk page:
{{Usertalkback|you=watched}}
- Another way, now less standard, was to use such notice:
If you leave me a message, I will respond here and will let you know on your talk page using the {{Talkback}} template. |
You can do so by copying the following code:
{{Notice|'''If you leave me a message, I will respond ''here'' and will let you know on your talk page using the {{tl|Talkback}} template.'''}}
