Dare to be naïve. ~ Buckminster Fuller
2004
I like not only to be loved, but also to be told that I am loved. I am not sure that you are of the same mind. But the realm of silence is large enough beyond the grave. This is the world of light and speech, and I shall take leave to tell you that you are very dear. ~ George Eliot
2005
Freedom of choice is more to be treasured than any possession earth can give. ~ David O. McKay, (born 8 September 1873)
2006
Some forms of reality are so horrible we refuse to face them, unless we are trapped into it by comedy. To label any subject unsuitable for comedy is to admit defeat. ~ Peter Sellers
2007
I'm not a politician, I'm a musician. I care about giving people a place where they can go to enjoy themselves and to begin to live again. To the man you have to give the spirit, and when you give him the spirit, you have done everything. ~ Luciano Pavarotti (recent death)
2008
Soldiers are citizens of death's grey land,
Drawing no dividend from time's to-morrows.
In the great hour of destiny they stand,
Each with his feuds, and jealousies, and sorrows.

~ Siegfried Sassoon (born September 8, 1886)
2009
What voice revisits me this night? What face
To my heart’s room returns?
From the perpetual silence where the grace
Of human sainthood burns
Hastes he once more to harmonise and heal?
I know not. Only I feel
His influence undiminished
And his life’s work, in me and many, unfinished.

~ Siegfried Sassoon ~
2010

Oh, he tells me tears are something to hide
And something to fear
And I try so hard to keep it inside
So no one can hear.

"Hush, hush, keep it down now.
Voices carry."

~ Aimee Mann ~ (born 8 September 1960)

Who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle! ~ Peter Sellers

There is no me. I do not exist. There used to be a me but I had it surgically removed.

2014

Like Peter Pan, or Superman,
You have come... to save me.
Come on and save me...

Why don't you save me?
If you could save me,
From the ranks of the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone,
Except the freaks…
Who could never love anyone.

~ Aimee Mann‎‎ ~

You're sure
There's a cure.
And you have finally found it.
You think
One drink
Will shrink you 'til you're underground
And living down.
But it's not going to stop.
It's not going to stop.
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up.

When you’re a charmer
the world applauds
they don’t know that secretly charmers
feel like they’re frauds

When you’re a charmer
you hate yourself
a victim of sideshow hypnosis
like everyone else.

~ Aimee Mann ~
2017

I don't know how to break the news, but
It's pretty clear you'll be asked to choose between
What you lack and what you excuse
In this tug of war
You can't say that they didn't warn you
Though you'd rather that they just ignore you
Cause your devices are not working for you anymore.

What you want, you don't know
You're with stupid now.

~ Aimee Mann ~
2018

Though you pay for the hands they're shaking
The speeches and the mistakes they're making
As they struggle with the undertaking
Of simple thought.

What you want, you don't know
You're with stupid now.
What you know, you don't want to know
You're with stupid now.

~ Aimee Mann ~

Little tornado
You and the hurricane
Close your eyes and go campaign
Make it go faster
Baby go faster
Make it go twice the speed of you and me
~ Aimee Mann ~

Donald Trump is the most dangerous president in the modern history of our country and he must be defeated.
Tragically, we have a president today who is a pathological liar and who is running a corrupt administration. He clearly does not understand the Constitution of the United States and thinks that he is a president who is above the law. In my view, he is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe and a religious bigot, and he must be defeated, and I will do everything in my power to make that happen.
~ Bernie Sanders ~

Literature endures, like the universal spirit,
And its breath becomes a part of the vitals of all men.
~ Li Shangyin ~
2022
Trump was saying that the only way he could lose the election is if there was — let me get the exact quote — "the only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election." Now he is making that statement at a time when virtually every national poll has him behind. … there is a very high likelihood that Trump will contest the results if he loses … And it would be an unprecedented moment in American history and undermining everything that this country stands for if we have a president remain in office who lost the election. … I certainly hope with all of my heart that none of this happens.
~ Bernie Sanders ~

I think in this particular time, this particular moment in American history, when we're taking on somebody — the former President, who in fact does not believe in democracy — he is an authoritarian, and a very, very dangerous person — I think at this moment there has to be a unification of progressive people in general all over this country — people who are prepared to make sure that women control their own body, that we deal with climate change, that we represent the needs of the working class of this country, and take on the billionaire classes.
~ Bernie Sanders ~
2024
Our country faces unprecedented challenges today. They cannot be resolved with half-steps or compromises. There is not a middle ground between the insatiable greed of uber-capitalism and a fair deal for the working class. There is not a middle ground as to whether or not we save the planet. There is not a middle ground about whether or not we preserve our democracy and remain a society based on equal protection for all.

You have to live before you die, or you'll die before you live. ~ Peter Sellers (date of birth)

It was imperative to strike before we were struck by this overwhelming force in a hand-to-hand fight, which we could not probably have withstood or survived. At that crisis, I ordered the bayonet. The word was enough. ~ Joshua Chamberlain (born 8 September 1828)

I have very conservative Republican colleagues who believe in democracy, who are going to fight for their reactionary economic views but who do not believe in authoritarianism. It is incumbent upon them, in this moment in history, to stand up and say that what Trump is doing is not what the United States is about, it’s not what our constitution is about.
~ Bernie Sanders ~

We are living in an unprecedented moment in American history. Donald Trump is not only a pathological liar, has not only helped wage an insurrection … to prevent President Biden from taking office. Not only is denying American democracy — moving against the American democracy. So I think at this moment … we have got to bring the progressive community together to say, you know what, we're gonna fight for a progressive agenda. But we cannot have four more years of Donald Trump in the White House.
~ Bernie Sanders ~

It's not enough simply to say that Trump and his followers are extremists who do not believe in democracy and the rule of law. Democrats should be making it absolutely clear that the people the Republicans take their money from, and the people whom Republican policies serve — the very rich and the very powerful individuals who seek an America where uber-capitalism defines every aspect of our economy and of our society — are the problem. There is a reason why Republicans oppose saving the planet, oppose taxing the rich, oppose regulating corporations. And oppose responding to inflation by addressing corporate price gouging and profiteerring. They are delivering for their billionaire donors and their corporate sponsors. Pure and simple. Democrats should be making it clear that they are prepared to challenge the rich and powerful on behalf of the working class. This will resonate with the American people in ways that the GOP lies never could.

  • Life is glad life when led by laughing hours,
      With joys of love or spoils of battle gilt;
When darkness steals the day and shuts the flowers,
Our arms are shattered and the wine is spilt,
We rise as grateful guests from banquet gay,
Resign the wreath, and toss the glass away.
  • Death is dark death when slurred with terrors vain:
Whether blest isles or fields Elysian wait,
Or all is silent o'er the circling main,
We know not ever; but we conquer Fate,
Assail the mansions of the Gods, and claim
The crown of valour, in a deathless name.

And, when these fail us, it is well to die.
The latest freedom never fails our hand,

When Life grows heavy. Death remains, the door
To dreamless rest beside the Stygian shore.
  • The portals open to our meteor way:
A red dawn breaks the shadows of the hour.
We leave the bitter cup of alien sway,
To hinds that crouch beneath the heels of power.
    Ours the triumphal path, the hero's right;
And Death hangs o'er us like a starry night!

I shall be loyal to the setting sun.
