Are those links acceptable? BSI is a national standards body in the UK, but there is something fishy in putting links directly to sales pages. An unusually large fraction are external links in article body, which violates WP:EXTERNAL. Rentier (talk) 15:30, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

@Rentier: I do not see any obvious spammers .. but I agree that this does not look right. It should link to a general page explaining the standard. I found one or two references where the standard is correctly linked, but I don't think that that is relevant to the statements on the reference. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:08, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

While recently tracking an external link spammer's edits, one of the sites they were adding to multiple articles being www.hajjumrahpackages.us, I found one of the instances in this article which I have left there for now. The reason of my hesitation is that this is an important event involving travel. There are several external links there which appear to be to blogs or touring companies (examples: dawntravels.com, ilinktours.com and this very link I aforementioned). I was tempted to remove most of them, but my patrolling experience being limited, I would be grateful if someone else could help evaluate if those links are appropriate in this case, or which should be removed. Thank you, —PaleoNeonate - 14:15, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

I think that I reverted all of it that was left and found no other instances recently using insource search, editing seems to have stopped for now, I'm not sure if any action is necessary, but here goes, in case. The exception is the aforementioned link to hajjumrahpackages.us in the Hajj article. Thanks —PaleoNeonate - 14:15, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

@PaleoNeonate: plus Added to User:XLinkBot/RevertList - the two similar usernames suggest to me that they will make more accounts, lets warn them early on. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:59, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
Thank you, —PaleoNeonate - 17:15, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
@Beetstra:: I noticed that the bot's list also had the same error as was here (.comm rather than .com for peacequarters.com). I probably originally mistyped the domain tld. Thanks, —PaleoNeonate - 02:10, 3 July 2017 (UTC)
@PaleoNeonate: oi .. that is why the first one was empty. I did not notice it. The bot picks up what is in the LinkSummary-template, whatever typo's there are (and so does my black/revertlist script). The new report has now been saved, and it adds more editors to our collection. I'll repair the revertlisting item. --Dirk Beetstra T C 03:59, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

@PaleoNeonate: I am getting more and more tempted to blacklist also the above set. This is now clearly becoming (COI) link abuse. --Dirk Beetstra T C 13:25, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
You may be right: [1] although the bot successfully unlinked it. —PaleoNeonate - 13:42, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

I noticed this link is being added as a reference to several football-related articles (for instance, Supercopa de España, GOL TV, 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup) by different newly-registered editors. Seems to be a streaming website. What is the best way to approach this? Normally, when I see an editor adding spam links, I revert and report to AIV, but since the links are being added by different editors in this case, I don't know if there is an easier way to revert. @FlyingAce: This is plain spamming

Even warning or blocking doesn't make sense here, nothing much you can do but a) report it here, or b) report it at the spam blacklist (or maybe c) start an SPI and hope they share a further unused IP). In either way my response is the same:

Found it necessary to blank this report and request delisting on my talkpage. Editor also tried to spam this link again. --Dirk Beetstra T C 06:36, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
*facepalm* The nerve of some people...
And it appears they're back, now spamming a link to their Facebook page (and hidden inside a reference, go figure!): [2]FlyingAce✈hello 21:00, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

ETA: I tried adding the template –
– but it's showing all links to Facebook. It didn't find this particular link either, I guess because it was inside a reference instead of as an external link? I'll keep an eye on recent changes and report here as needed. –FlyingAce✈hello 21:06, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Spam in an edit summary

Could someone please look at the edit summary for this edit? I'm not sure how to deal with it. - Richard Cavell (talk) 05:15, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Not a massive issue, but I've revdelled it - unambiguous advertising (but it is not searchable, and unlikely that anyone will see it. Added tracking above for the site, lets see if there is a wider problem. --Dirk Beetstra T C 05:20, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
(has not been linked in 'content' namespaces as far as I can see). --Dirk Beetstra T C 05:38, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure what to make of it. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:46, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

Update:

User blocked and article deleted. Now, his edits, in the form of coat-racking and what might be consider ref-spamming the ln.edu.hk site, remain. Would editors reading this please consider helping to do a bit of cleanup? I'm involved, so wish to stay out of the cleanup. Also, I am not certain what should remain and what should go. Many, many thanks if you can help. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:46, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

Spam articles deleted and recreated

BereniceMulubah (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · blacklist hits · AbuseLog · what links to user page · count · COIBot · Spamcheck · user page logs · x-wiki · status · Edit filter search · Google · StopForumSpam) This user has created a page about herself at BereniceMulubah. A speedy deletion tag (A7, G11) was placed, and the user removed the speedy deletion tag. The tag was placed and removed again before I (under a different IP address than this one) replaced the tag one more time. The page was deleted, and her spamming at the user talk page was removed. A new article (BereniceMulubah1) was created with identical contents by the same editor, and was CSD tagged again. This is a notice to inform this WikiProject in case the issue becomes more severe. Administrators may wish to protect the relevent titles from creation if recreation of the article continues. 114.242.249.150 (talk) 13:17, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

IFSC spam and refspam

Sites usually added by anons using the common SEO technique. IFSC codes are highly prone to spamming, see Indian Financial System Code for example. ☆ Bri (talk) 04:25, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Essay mills. Researchomatic in particular has been added to a number of articles - now cleaned up, but it would be good if it could be blacklisted to protect from further spamming. An SPI has been started against Juliamorison and Caitlyn.rseymore who are obvious socks, only interested in promoting these domains. --bonadea contributions talk 15:22, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

It's only two or three edits daily but it's been ongoing:

How about a six-month rangeblock across Izhevsk? That ought to get their attention. (I am not watching this page, so please ping me if you want my attention.) Chris Troutman (talk) 09:35, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
