Fianna Fáil Local Councillors

[edit]

Fianna Fáil Local Councillors. I have an issue to raise with the wider Wikipedia Community. I personally created a Wikipedia Article for a Padraig McNally and user Spleodrach decided himself/herself to use the gender neutral Wikipedia terminology to delete it despite my opposition during a debate. The individual concerned was a former Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council and President of the AILG. I still object to this decision by Spleodrach to delete the article on his/her own initiative and ask the wider Wikipedia community to revert it back. Furthermore it should be added to Former Fianna Fáil Local Councillors. Someone has decided to add people who are current and deceased/retired or people who have resigned from the Fianna Fáil party to this list. All should be in the correct category of Former Fianna Fáil Local Councillors if they no longer hold elected officec for that party. While a Wikipedia editor I am also one myself and would happily join the likes of Padraig MacNally, Paudge Brennan, Bertie Ahern, Robert Briscoe, Mary Shields (whose article I created) in that correct category. I await the decision of the wider community. However as I do not have the ego of a small sub-Saharan political state I will not be creating a wikipedia page about myself while I already have my own userpage here for sometime. Devite (talk) 04:09, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since my post here user Spleodrach has taken upon himself/herself to police or vandalise edits of mine to other Irish article of a political nature and some article I have edited to do with epilepsy have been edited also. Is there a pattern here? I petition for this user to be called out for not having answered my challenge, having ignored it and further having then had the audacity to edit/delete edits of mine without having the curtesy to discuss them here first as I am giving the opportunity to him/her. As an editor of Wiki this is childish behaviour and not on regardless of how old he/she is. Devite (talk) 22:47, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Devite:, I only came across this message now because you did not ping me or leave a message on my talk page. Padraig McNally article was deleted by consensus, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pádraig McNally. You said that "user Spleodrach decided himself/herself to use the gender neutral Wikipedia terminology to delete it despite my opposition during a debate". What is "gender neutral Wikipedia terminology", please explain? I !voted to delete, as I thought the article did not meet the criteria for politicians. Another editor proposed the article for deletion, and several others also !voted to delete, and an admin closed the debate as delete. so why do you single me out? The article was deleted by wikipedia consensus, the is the wikipedia way. Then you talk about Former Fianna Fáil Local Councillors, which I don't quite follow, maybe you could explain that further?
Furthremore, you go to accuse me of vandalism and of being childish. Firstly, can you please remain WP:CIVIL, and secondly, explain where I have vandalised articles? You mention something about epilepsy but I have not edited any such article recently. Apparently I also "had the audacity to edit/delete edits of mine", well this is how wikipedia works, no one owns articles, other editors can and will edit your edits, see recent edits at Frank Aiken, for example. Again, I am a few days late replying because you didn't tag me, but also because I don't answer to you personally. Please remain civil, and try to calm down. Spleodrach (talk) 08:02, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm perfectly calm. Padraig McNally is a former Fianna Fáil elected Councillor and a former President of the Association of Irish Local Government. Therefore he'd be a good addition for the group of either Fianna Fáil elected or unelected Fianna Fáil Councillors. Né'st ce pas vrai? Níl sé sin ceart? Cad a cheapain sibh that is those of you who voted to delete his article? He was a Councillor in Monaghan from c.1979-2019 I think. Perhaps check the data. I check data and facts all the time me. I vote for the article to be re-instated now. What do you all think? Devite (talk) 13:56, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
user Spleodrach decided...to delete it...on his/her own initiative
That is not what happened. No one Wikipedia user can delete any article. Articles are nominated for deletion and then any user frequenting Wikipedia:Articles for deletion can voice their opinion on it.
User @Iveagh Gardens nominated the article for deletion (not Spleodrach) and Users @Broc, @Normanhunter2 and @Guliolopez were also of the view that the article didn't meet the criteria for a standalone Wikipedia article. You said "I await the decision of the wider community"...that was a decision by the wider community.
While a Wikipedia editor I am also one myself and would happily join the likes of (other politicians)... I will not be creating a wikipedia page about myself
This comment was odd so I looked at your user page, which states:
"I am an...recently elected public-representative"
Devite, you might be too close for comfort on this topic. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for further information. CeltBrowne (talk) 12:36, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Spare me. Conflict of interest. I also write and edit pieces on Scottish and Northern Ireland elections also and am also a Wikipedia editor on health. Don't pigeon-hole me. Devite (talk) 13:57, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping. I’m happy to take full responsibility for the proposal to delete the article for Pádraig McNally: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pádraig McNally. I’m not sure what that has to do specifically with Spleodrach, more than any other contributor to that discussion. Whenever an article is proposed for deletion, there’s an opportunity to add to the article to ensure it passes the notability criteria. Local councillors don’t pass that, and given the rotating chair nature of the office, being Cathaoirleach for doesn’t either, IMHO. The discussion remained open for a week after your own contribution, and for five days after my response to yours. It was then closed by an uninvolved administrator. All standard processes were followed. There is a process of Wikipedia:Deletion Review if you have concerns about what occurred in the case of McNally.
FWIW, WT:IE might have been a better place to raise concerns, being an Ireland-specific discussion space. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 14:01, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Task force for college campus activism

[edit]

Hello! I'm writing to ask if there would be any interest in starting up a task force for articles related to college campus activism? I'm a librarian with a group of approximately 5-6 other librarians who are interested in working on content along these lines, and it was suggested to us that we should see if there is space within WikiProject Politics for our work. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Emjackson42 (talk) 13:31, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Emjackson42, if you have a number of participants already I encourage you to start collaborating without feeling the need to wait for a formal task force. Do you have an idea of what the scope of the work would be, particular goals, maybe tentative lists of target articles and/or resources to be used? CMD (talk) 11:00, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
