Redlinks

Not sure if anyone watches over here, but it's worth a shot. I've compiled a page here that has all of our townships titles replacing Ohio with OH. There's a lot of redirects that need to be made from this list and I was wondering if someone would mind lending me a hand? Thanks. §hep • ¡Talk to me! 21:22, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

As most townships will are sparsely populated, few have web-sites. Those that do should be listed. All articles should link to the county homepage and other sites relevant to the township in general.

I'm not sure why the counties' site links are always required, even if the respective township does have its own, since all townships will have wikilinks to their respective counties, and those articles will supposedly have the respective external links to the corresponding official websites. (I noted this a couple of years ago FWIW: my edit, the revert.) Mapsax (talk) 22:03, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Guidelines or rules?

I have brought this up in a discussion with Nyttend on the Talk:Franklin Township, Portage County, Ohio page and wanted to see if I could get more feedback on some ideas that I have. I have always understood taskforces and projects to release guidelines and formats to promote a general uniformity but not necessarily a bunch of cookie-cutter articles that are the same in every way except for the specific information.

• The settlement infobox provides a number of additional options for maps, including one known as the "pushpin" map. Is there any particular reason that we shouldn't use them on the township pages when they are used quite frequently on city pages? I've been editing on here for a few years now and just noticed the pushpin maps recently, so my best guess is that it's a newer option (or I just never ran into it!). Personally I think they look better because they are in color (as opposed to the black and white with the red dot) and have a small inset showing the location of Ohio in the US. They also have a label option so it's even clearer and easier to read.
• The infobox title seems a bit long and unnecessary to me. I don't quite see why we need to include the county name and state name on the infobox title when both are clearly visible in the article title (and the opening paragraph) and the elongated name was created to separate articles of communities with the same name rather than an "official name" actually used by the township. Again, many of the city articles I have read simply use the city name (not even with the state) as the infobox title and nothing else.
• In the end, these are obviously just my preferences from seeing how others have utilized the infobox, but since it has those options available, why can't we use them in Ohio township articles? Along with that, aren't the guidelines themselves simple group preferences and are they actual guidelines or absolute rules that must be adhered to? My purpose here is not to get a lot of drastic changes, but more to see if more options can be utilized without fear of being removed, especially since the township articles are also part of WikiProject Cities. --JonRidinger (talk) 18:45, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Discussion to remove the Automatically assessed logic from the WikiProject United States template

Greetings, there is a discussion regarding removal of the logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories from Template:WikiProject United States. Most of the categories (over 220 Wikipedia wide) were deleted in February 2013 because they were empty. These categories were previously populated by a bot that hasn't run since 2011 and the categories aren't used. Removal of this uneeded/unused logic will greatly reduce the size and complexity of the WikiProject United States template. Any comments or questions are encouraged here. Lest there is any confusion for people who don't speak the same language, the words "logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories" refer to the feature that was supposed to allow this WikiProject's template to "inherit" class and importance ratings from other WikiProjects. Kumioko says that there are no longer any bots performing the function that formerly copied those ratings. --Orlady (talk) 23:28, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you?
