Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7 and all WIR helpers: Here's a rough draft of the to-do list. I lost the thread of the discussion for the year long initiative. Seems like it kinda landed on Education, but I can't find that conversation. If someone knows where it is, please link it up. If you want to take a page (please!) ping here. Thanks. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 02:13, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Education seemed to be favoured, closely followed by Literature and a suggestion of Jan-Jun and Jul-Dec. Over to others to firm up. Oronsay (talk) 03:36, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • WomenArtistUpdates: There's seems to be sufficient support for my proposal on "one biography a week" for it to go ahead. Do you think it could be integrated smoothly into #1day1woman or should be handled as a separate event? If so, I can start preparing it. If it's to be part of #1day1woman, you might like to make a start and then I can try to adapt it. Personally I think it would fit in well to #1day1woman as contributors would be more likely to take part and the event would provide an overview of articles created about women from any sphere of interest.--Ipigott (talk) 07:34, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • How about, instead of "WCTU", we name the event "Temperance women" in order to include the women who didn't belong to the WCTU? WCTU was prevalent in some countries but not all countries where women were doing temperance work. Also, there are other women's temperance-focused organizations. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:43, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • WomenArtistUpdates, I don't think so, at least I couldn't find one at our Redlist Index. I will start adding To-Do information (redlinks) on the Temperance Women event page, and hope others will join in. Eventually, we can shift that information into crowd-sourced and/or Wikidata-generated lists. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:23, 22 December 2023 (UTC) So I created this Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Temperance, which is shoddy and incomplete, but hoping that other editors will improve it as is the common wiki way. Note, I did add it to the Redlist Index and #296. --~~[reply]
WomenArtistUpdates, one of our newly-created biographical dictionary redlists, Representative Women of New England, features many women involved in the temperance movement. Curbon7 (talk) 21:14, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Curbon7. I have added it as a possible resource on the Temperance Women page. Looks promising :) --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 23:46, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@WomenArtistUpdates & everyone the thread for the year-long theme is here - most people seem to agree on Education, so I think I'll be bold and make that the year-long. I do think we should make sure the other options of Literature, The Arts and Business are covered too Lajmmoore (talk) 20:43, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am off #1day1woman 2024 for awhile. Ipigott, the page is yours. Sorry for any typos and mistakes that got through. All are encouraged to proof read. If you add your name to the participant list, we can assume you have looked it over and don't see any glaring errors.

Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, and all WIR helpers: It looks like the invitation and events pages are coming together :) I think we just about at the final proofing stage. I added an announcement about the biography a week portion of one day on woman.

--WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:48, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ipigott it looks like the Events listing upgrade works! --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:55, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it seems fine to me.--Ipigott (talk) 17:01, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks, Lajmmoore for okaying #1day1women. As I've now added details of our new option on "One biography a week" you might like to check it through once more. Others are of course also welcome to take a look. I don't think there's any need for a separate participants list as contributors names will appear in the new listing.--Ipigott (talk) 12:21, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've looked through everything and it all looks pretty good to me. Nevertheless, as I've edited #293 #1day1woman, #294 Education and also the invitation, I would appreciate a new pair of eyes on these before we firm things up.--Ipigott (talk) 12:57, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
* I've reviewed Education and and the invitation and Events. I marked them as OK. I am one of the creators of #293 #1day1woman so I am blind to the content at this point :) WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 17:08, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • May I suggest that we wait until the 27th before we send out the invitations. We don't want to interfere with all the other greetings and people will be more attentive after Christmas.--Ipigott (talk) 15:24, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note, we last did Stage and Screen in August 2023 and I cannot remember why we have bumped it up to February. Also, does anyone know of any other Black history month events that would be good for ANNOUNCEMENTS? --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:03, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I seem to remember a discussion about having an event for women behind the scenes, rather than actors. Stage Screen is in our Table of annual events/collaborations for August.--Oronsay (talk) 06:45, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oronsay - Good catch. Do we have redlists for behind the scenes? Would it make sense for behind the scenes to be separate from the August event? --Rosiestep (talk) 09:41, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are redlists for Animators, Casting directors, Costume designers, Film crew, Film directors, Film producers, Screenwriters, Sound and audio, and Theater. And perhaps we could include the one for Stunt performers. I didn't check to see how many are listed, but some are tagged as large. Oronsay (talk) 20:11, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my goodness! Our event #299 will happen in February, which means that event #300 will take place in March for Women's History Month. I know it's just a number, but is sure stands out to me as being meaningful in some way. I am in awe that people have come together, going on 299 times, to do something so good for humanity. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:17, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm happy to make a start on setting up the alphabet page, will do that now!
@Rosiestep: what a wonderful milestone for the project. :) Chocmilk03 (talk) 22:13, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking/needing exactly. I'm probably not the best person to craft the announcement, but I am happy to post the announcement/invite to relevant WikiProjects, if that's helpful. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:32, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another Believer and Ipigott, etc., How about we "flip the script" and ask WiR participants to spread the word about our Black History event. I've cobbled an idea up in the announcements section. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 19:18, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lajmmoore Rosiestep and other interested parties, Why don't we move it back to August and focus on off-stage/off-screen at that time? Black History month is a pretty big draw and we should still reach event 300 in March. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:40, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AllAfrica can now be searched on the ProQuest tab at the WP Library

suggested tip of the month for February. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:04, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. Maybe extend it a bit as When creating a new article be sure to check various spellings, including birth name, married names and pseudonyms, to be sure an article doesn't already exist.--Ipigott (talk) 15:37, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't disagree that the suggested tip is a critical one. If one specific to our Black History Month is appropriate for this particular month, we might include that AllAfrica can now be searched on the ProQuest tab at the WP Library. SusunW (talk) 19:44, 18 January 2024 (UTC)  Done[reply]
Thanks Ipigott, much better wording. SusunW, No problems with this moving to March. Might, in fact, be good with the redirect drive. Another step in getting us all in the habit of checking for existence of article and then creating a redirect if it does exist. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:26, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@WomenArtistUpdates: thank you! I can create the Redirect Her / Find Her page based on what I'd already started drafting. Would it also be possible to link to the following under events facilitated by others: Francophone Women★ Writers Fortnight 2024. I (as a rep for the WikiWomen's User Group) have set this up together with les sans pagEs and it would be wonderful to get some WiR editors involved. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 02:23, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @WomenArtistUpdates, once again for getting us underway. I'll make a start on #300 Art Feminism. Oronsay (talk) 02:23, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have withdrawn my offer. I am totally confused by your Q&R, @WomenArtistUpdates. I don't understand how this new system works. Am happy to proofread closer to despatch of the invitation. Sorry.--Oronsay (talk) 02:32, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WomenArtistUpdates: Thanks for the alert but I am also confused. When I looked at your alphabet rerun page, it started with Template:WIR meetup header. When I looked it up, it pointed to Black Women. Is this the result of reworking by MSGJ? If so, clarifications are needed. In any case, it no longer seems possible to base new meetups on similar past events as they are not set up in the same way. So unless I am mistaken it looks as if a series of copy and pastes will now be necessary.--Ipigott (talk) 07:08, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK Oronsay and Ipigott. I'll make 300 Art Feminism to see if I can reproduce the outcome of 299. It took me a minute to get my brain wrapped around the new format. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:58, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey everyone, if the template is making things difficult then just revert back to the usual way that you create meetup pages. Ipigott, the display on Template:WIR meetup header is an example, which now shows the most recent event. This display will change when you add the parameter. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:18, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oronsay, Ipigott, WomenArtistUpdates, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7 Yes, please, let's continue with the usual way that we create WiR meetup pages. Like other editors have mentioned, I am flummoxed by the instructions regarding a potential new approach.
MSGJ, if you'd like to discuss a potential new approach to creating WiR meetup pages, please start that conversation on the main WiR talkpage. Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:51, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think I have figured it out. The skeletons are up. What do we want to call 301 "Find Her" or something else? Also 301 need some text. New is always hard, but I think we need to proceed by using the previous month's events and editing those rather than taking last year's event and editing it. Follow steps below. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:56, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I have "figured it out" too but I had to go into the new template to see how it had been set up. It was not initially obvious how it had brought together the various templates we use when creating meetup pages. Just to see if it was still possible for us to edit the various details, I changed the ages for WP Women and WP Women's History to after and before 1960 rather than 1950 and was pleased to see it worked. But our earlier approach was much more transparent.--Ipigott (talk) 17:09, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great Ipigott! I am looking at this like I approached the new "skin" a couple of months ago. I'll get used to it. A wise wikipedian advised me to just go with the new. I think we should treat March as a learning month and revisit the instructions section after all has been launched. Actually, when I first started making meet up pages, a few years ago, I found that extremely opaque, so I don't have an issue with learning a new way. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:25, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ipigott, Rosiestep, Chocmilk03, PamD, and all WIR helpers: The draft of Event #301: Redirect Her" (or) "Find Her is up. It needs text and redlinks and a decision about the title of the event. Oronsay, do you know how to make the Q and R redlists for the alphabet run? Thanks,--WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:31, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've done those lists now, @WomenArtistUpdates. Had some challenges and had to split R which, in retrospect was not necessary, but there we are. And, @Ipigott, I reverted the 1960 to our standard 1950 - hope that's ok. Oronsay (talk) 21:39, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, Oronsay, the reason I changed it is that I've been thinking about doing so for some time. It's now over eight years since we introduced 1950 as a break point and I come across more and more instances of women's biographies which seem to merit Women's History for achievements up to 1960. But I think I should probably first raise it with WP Women's History from where I first received a recommendation in regard to 1950 around 2010. It should probably also be discussed on WIR talk.--Ipigott (talk) 08:56, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Their project page still suggests 1950, but that does not look like an active WikiProject so it is not surprising that it hasn't been updated. It might be worth having a discussion with the project (in case anyone responds) about merging with WikiProject Women and becoming a subproject. Then it not be necessary to have such an arbitrary cut-off between history and non-history — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:13, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MSGJ: In regard to Wikipedia:WikiProject Women's History, there might not be much in the way of discussion there but it is an extremely important wikiproject for WiR and for Women in Green in connection with article assessment and recognized content. I add or edit Women's History templates on article talk pages every day. It's not quite true to say that the project "still suggests 1950". It actually sets out to cover "the lives, activities, achievements, and experiences of women up to the mid-20th century" which is not the same as born before or after 1950. For achievements before 1950 to be included, then we might expect women's births of 1930 or earlier. But as you say, this should be discussed elsewhere.--Ipigott (talk) 12:02, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Oronsay! --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:57, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WomenArtistUpdates, love the logo for the "Find Her" event!! --Rosiestep (talk) 19:07, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ditto! Perfection, thanks @WomenArtistUpdates. I've made a start on adding some text and useful links but am on my phone this morning so it's a bit tricky, will do more later! Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 19:49, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
She is based on Nancy Drew. :) --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:57, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
She's delightful and just what is needed. A supersleuth at work, as are we all. Oronsay (talk) 23:42, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've now fleshed out the text for Find Her, but very keen for input from others since it is a bit of a different format to our usual events. For example, there are no redlists as such, so I've instead included links to orphaned articles that might be relevant and articles missing categories.
(P.S. @Rosiestep, you'd previously made the excellent suggestion of running this as a worldwide event through the WikiWomen's User Group. Although I'd made a start on thinking about that, I haven't had chance to progress it as my Wiki capacity has been a bit limited this month and I've been focussed on setting up the English version of the Francophone Women Writers fortnight. If the WIR event goes well this year, perhaps we can do it as an international version next year!) Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 01:16, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Chocmilk03, I think Find Her looks good. I bolded This is a new event! We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating redirects and adding categories and wikilinks to make it easier to find women. It seems like a great way to draw in new participants and emphasis might make it clear that it is a gnomish experience rather than a writing one. I also added the tip "Read the essay on Writing women into the encyclopedia describing how "writing about women on Wikipedia doesn't stop after you've created a biography." I continue to find it a great resource. Please feel free to revert one or both edits. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:24, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Super helpful! Thanks very much. That link is an excellent essay. :) Chocmilk03 (talk) 01:35, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott, Thanks for tidying up Art Feminism. It looks fine to me, but I have had a hand in all the pages, so I am not a reliable second pair of eyes on anything in March. I actually like original "Tip of the Month" for March because it dovetails with the "Find Her" project. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:30, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oronsay and all WIR helpers:, Could you proof read the March event? Change "not ok" to "ok" in the to-do list above, or add your name to "participants" to signify the page looks good to you --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:37, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, been busy today. Will check everything out in about 12-14 hours' time. Oronsay (talk) 06:45, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All checked and now OK. Oronsay (talk) 20:11, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ipigott! Yes MSGJ has stated the reason correctly, we no longer need to create the templates so I struck that from the to do list and the request for proof reading. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 17:03, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. As for Visible Women, I see the Meta page is all about 2023. I suggest we remove it from the invitation unless Rosiestep or Victuallers can get things moving again.--Ipigott (talk) 18:31, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't heard anything about VisibleWikiWomen for 2024, so I removed it from the invite. I added a link to the "Celebrate Women" page on Wiki-Meta (which is where all content-gender-gap events, in all language Wikipedias, on-wiki/off-wiki will be promoted.) --Rosiestep (talk) 18:45, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Rosiestep. I would like to propose a collaboration in March with les sans pagEs if WIR is willing to. It's is our annual Francophone Women* Writes Fortnight, and we are trying to get more participation from non French speaking projects. Here is the main page of the campaign Francophone Women* Writers Fortnight/2024.
I would be glad to propose this as a lot of women* francophone writers are from Africa which is very poorly represented on our projects, so this could be a way of having an intersectionnal impact. I'd be glad to help someone here who would like to put up a project page and a fountain tool for the campaign. Warm regards Nattes à chat (talk) 21:14, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if this is not the correct place to propose :/ Nattes à chat (talk) 21:14, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nattes à chat, we love collaborating! I'm going to copy your message here so that the WWUG representatives can be in contact with you. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:20, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have been in touch with Nattes à chat and will work on creating a project page via WWUG. What would be awesome is if WIR could do something linked for the month of March; maybe Francophone writers, or Francophone African women per Lajmmoore? Something to keep in mind for next month of course, don't need to decide now. :) Chocmilk03 (talk) 22:11, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Great ideas there ! I have updating the working list on meta, but feel free to add some more if you wish. Important thing is it has to be about francophone women* writers or writings (it can also be theater or poetry, but all in frenchie !) Nattes à chat (talk) 23:58, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Nattes à chat!
All: I have made a start on a project page for the Francophone writers fortnight event on English Wikipedia. Would it be OK to list WiR as "in collaboration with" for this one? I have borrowed heavily from WIR event formatting (hope that is OK with everyone, in the classic Wiki fashion I'm just being bold and please tell me if I'm out of line...! It's only a draft at this stage.) Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 03:17, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For me it's ok. Thank you very much ! I am so thrilled if the work that the african groups did over two years is finally translated bringing visibility to francophone African women* ! Nattes à chat (talk) 05:40, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MSGJ, I was trying to remove the extra space in the very bottom of the right-hand infobox on Alphabet Run: O & P where is states Editathon banner: {{WIR|297 }}. I quickly realized that you have replaced that side infobox with a template. I tried to drill down to fix it. I couldn't figure out where the template was grabbing the data for the infobox. I wandered around in "Template:Women in Red navigation", but couldn't quite figure it out. I looked through {{WIR meetup header|297 |pinterest=february-2024-editathons |background=F2E0CE |image=PearlGrigsbyRichardson1919.png |caption=P is for [[Pearl Grigsby Richardson]] }} But couldn't get much farther.

WiR will begin discussing and creating the March editathon meetups around the 20th. Before then, would it be possible for you to create Event #299: Alphabet run Q & R and document how you created the page? If not I think we will be using earlier versions with the infoboxes we know how to make. I am pinging our most active editors Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore with an additional ping to Kj cheetham who has been working on the tidy template project to see if they would like to help too.

I see the new step 4 in "Ideas page administration" at the bottom of the page, but I need you to dumb down explanation for me to follow it. Anyone who knows coding better than me, feel free to chime in. We for sure know there is going to be 299- Alphabet run Q & R, so test away. Thanks! --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:08, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I hope we can simply continue to use the templates and infoboxes we are familiar with. It should also be possible for us to edit any innovations without difficulty.--Ipigott (talk) 06:47, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WomenArtistUpdates not sure if someone else has already fixed it, but I can't see that extra space on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red/Meetup/297? I assume https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:WIR_meetup_header&diff=1208391405&oldid=1206936642 fixed it though. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:42, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For making a new event, not something I've ever done myself before, but looking at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red/Ideas#Basic_overview_of_tasks_using_March_2021_as_a_guide I'm not seeing an obvious missing step. I've just done step 1 ([1]), step 2 would be to populate Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/299 based on the last alphabet run (Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/297) and clean it up. Step 3 is add to the events list as per Template:WikiProject_Women_in_Red/doc#Technical_info. Is step 4 actually needed? I don't think it is, as it's the same template step 1 redirects to anyway. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:55, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I recommend step 4 is merged into step 1. -Kj cheetham (talk) 11:06, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look at this Kj cheetham. It does look like MSGJ has fixed the spacing problem https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:WIR_meetup_header&diff=1208391405&oldid=1206936642. I still am concerned about how all this will work once the 20th rolls around. Will do my very best to follow the steps to create 299|Alphabet run Q & R, but will ping for help if I get lost. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:38, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I did fix it earlier, but didn't have time to comment here (busy day!) I could automate step 1 on that list, but I know WAU is somewhat skeptical of templates in this situation, so I will resist the urge unless explicity asked — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:44, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @WomenArtistUpdates, @MSGJ and @Kj cheetham for all your work on this. I think we will need to draw participants' attention to the revised template format. I guess a bot can be run from time to time to update any use of the old style? Oronsay (talk) 20:55, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Which template are you referring to? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:40, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MSGJ, I think Oronsay is referring to the fact that the side infobox (on the event page) refers to {{WIR|297}} and maybe it should say {{WikiProject Women in Red|297}} to conform to the current templating. Not really an issue, since chewbot is taking care of this. (PS hope to try this all out soon.) --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:10, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WIR|297 is not currently changed to WikiProject Women in Red|297 but this is something we could do if the project wishes. It's WIR-297 that is automatically changed to WikiProject Women in Red|297 — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:26, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Um...I believe you coded it to say {{WIR|297}} . See https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:WIR_meetup_header&diff=1208391405&oldid=1206936642. I think it should be updated to something that will work :) --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:45, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if I was not clear. WIR|297 will indeed work, but what I said is that it will not automatically convert to WikiProject Women in Red|297, it will stay as WIR|297 — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:03, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand now MSGJ. I have finished my attempt to create Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/299. If you could take a look, at your convenience, to check my work I'd appreciate it. I am moving on to our to do list for March. Thanks. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:35, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All looks good. I made a few tweaks as you will see. By the way, there is no need to create a new wrapper template now, so {{WIR-299}} will not be used and {{WIR-300}} will not be needed either :) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:20, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks MSGJ. I really got the hang of it by page 301. I don't understand what you mean about creating new wrapper templates. Only because I thought I had created them! What is interesting is that the Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/events template is finicky, but it points you to your coding mistake. The "Find Her" logo had quotation marks in the title that was introducing an error. All is right with the world now, except I am in the process of changing the name of the image file. Hope you are around for pinging as we move ahead with March planning. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:11, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was actually asking you not to create the wrapper templates because they are no longer needed! When an editor types {{WIR|300}} they are using Template:WIR and so Template:WIR-300 is redundant. Anyway, no problem, we can delete them later. I notice you used "type": "initiative" for all the events you added, but my understanding is that "initiatives" are the year-long events and these are regular edit-a-thons. If that is true, then you can just leave out the "type" altogether — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:27, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks MSGJ. I believe I understand both points, and am making a note for updated directions. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:19, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Which instructions are you using? I have updated docs at Template:WikiProject Women in Red/doc and Template:WIR meetup header/doc but perhaps you have another set. By the way, the only part you missed was creating the category for the meetup articles, e.g. Category:WikiProject Women in Red meetup 299 articles, which is an extra step now — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:32, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HI MSGJ. I am referring to the steps listed at the bottom of this page under Ideas page administration, then Basic overview of tasks using March 2021 as a guide. That's where we keep the steps so anyone can participate in the monthly initiatives if they want to. I am hoping to update it with Basic overview of tasks using March 2024 as a guide some time in March --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:29, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When creating a new article be sure to check various spellings, including birth name, married names and pseudonyms, to be sure an article doesn't already exist. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:38, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I like this tip! If not too wordy, I wondered whether we could link to the Find Her event by adding something along the lines of:
When creating a new article be sure to check various spellings, including birth name, married names and pseudonyms, to be sure an article doesn't already exist. If it doesn't, you can create redirects to your new article from these alternative names.

Event pages as of 1 March GMT

[edit]

Hi MSGJ, As of 1 March GMT the pages with no secial paramaters in the "meetup header" are dispalying perfectly:Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/294, Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/300, Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/301. The ones with special paramaters are still displying February: Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/293, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/299.

The past event Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/298 has updated correctly Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/297 has not. Could you take a look at the headers please. Thank you! --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 02:06, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They are all displaying the same (but sometimes a purge is needed to update the cache). For simplicity the navigation links do not use the event number at all, they simply show the current and ongoing events based on the current time. Question: would it be useful to also include links to the events from February which have just finished? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:49, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, clearing the cache! Thanks MSGJ. And yes, the Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Events page needs to be updated. Could you provided guidance? I have some stuff to do IRL so I don't know when I'll be able to log back in this weekend. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:04, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just pressed Purge on that page too and it has now updated! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:19, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7, MSGJ and all WIR helpers: Here's a rough draft of the to-do list. We need to decide on the 3rd event. I would prefer Health over Environment because Environment was our annual event last year. I have created skeleton pages for #302: Alphabet run S & T and #303: Gender studies. Anyone wanting to work on the actual content please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/265 and Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/262

Please state your preferences or ideas for the 3rd meetup for april. Thanks. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:54, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

1 for Health. Looks like a great line-up! --Rosiestep (talk) 22:00, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, health sounds good to me. Thanks @WomenArtistUpdates! Chocmilk03 (talk) 22:15, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Another vote for Health. Thanks, @WomenArtistUpdates, for getting us started again. Oronsay (talk) 00:14, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank y'all. Health it is. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:22, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the content and redlists to Health. Also, all the redlists have been updated in March for both Health and Gender, except for Mental health professional which is in the update queue.--Oronsay (talk) 20:06, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure who is following up on the "One biography a week" project. Do we need to remind everyone about it in the April invitation as it's the beginning of a new quarter? Oronsay (talk) 20:15, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oronsay: I intend to provide recognition in early April to those who have succeeded in adding one biography a month over the past three months. A new three month period will indeed be starting on 1 April. I have adapted #293 accordingly. It might indeed be useful to provide a reminder in the invitation. Thanks for bringing this up.--Ipigott (talk) 07:09, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have just added description and redlists for the Alphabet run: S & T for April as the end of the month is fast approaching. I would like to have included an image of Catherine Helen Spence but have no idea how to do this under the new system, which I have found tricky to navigate (I withdrew an offer to create an event page last month for this reason). Also, there is a problem with the Most frequently linked redlists and I've approached @Certes, who created the original lists, about it. At this stage, I've left mention of these lists for S & T commented out. Oronsay (talk) 20:26, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Oronsay, I couldn't quite remember how to do it either, so I opened Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/299 (Q & R) and used the top of the page as a templete. I knew I was looking for Rosa Parks. Thank you so much for doing this one :) WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:12, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Added text to Gender studies. Still awaiting a response on who is following up on the "One biography a week" project. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:07, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WomenArtistUpdates I think gender studies looks great. I really like your text and the encouragement not just to write articles but to add names to the list. You know this one is one of my "must do" editathons, so I am going to take a break from my chain for April. Thank you for all that you do for WiR. SusunW (talk) 16:44, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7, MSGJ - are ther any announcements for the invitation for this month? Other initiatives we can signpost people to? If not, I can check the invite and send it today? Thanks for all the hard work all Lajmmoore (talk) 09:46, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I checked here, Lajmmoore; it seems like the answer is no, but someone should doublecheck as it's a bit confusing. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:54, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rosiestep: Isn't Celebrate Women for March? I just checked through everything for April and it all looks ok to me - but awaiting your confirmation.--Ipigott (talk) 10:00, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is mainly for March, but sometimes, events cross over into April, so that's why I checked there. I also looked at the Wikiwomen Telegram channel, but Chocmilk03 may be keeping a closer eye on that. --Rosiestep (talk) 10:32, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps there should be a mention of the 2nd quarter of the "One biography a week" - to get editors onboard who may have missed the original announcement in our January invitation? Oronsay (talk) 13:32, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oronsay: Thanks to your earlier suggestion, I have mentioned this in the invitation. Does it need to be mentioned anywhere else? If you are happy with everything, we can perhaps give the go-ahead to Lajmmoore. There's not much time left.--Ipigott (talk) 15:52, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much @Ipigott. All looks good to go now. Over to @Lajmmoore, please, to broadcast the invitation. Oronsay (talk) 19:10, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ipigott @Oronsay done! Lajmmoore (talk) 19:43, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Technical side conversation up for April

[edit]

MSGJ, Thank you for reviewing the pages. As of now would this be the best "example" of the beginning of a page? Changing the event number and the month? Also, did I make the three new pages (302, 303, and 304) correctly or did I miss something? I ask, because I used the instructions we drafted last month and I'd like to edit them If I misunderstood a step or two. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:58, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good! If you check my edits to each page then you will see the tidying/fixing I did, but mostly it was fine — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:09, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did see the further tidy updates! User/creator/editor is placing most info (background color, template info, graphics) about the page in Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/events which then cascades through the WiR ecosystem. I did remember to purge the cache! --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:18, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Suggest Celebrating 300!! Did you know that we curate the pictures of the women we add? Victuallers (talk) 09:56, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, my, Victuallers. It's been awhile since I clicked on the WiR Pinterest board for the month, and it stunned me. Look at those piercing photos of those notable women! If editors weren't creating the articles and if Penny wasn't uploading their photos to Pinterest, where would these 118 women be visible? Rhetorical question. This is all to say that I support your suggestion! --Rosiestep (talk) 10:05, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7, MSGJ and all WIR helpers: Here's a rough draft of the to-do list which I have done in the absence of WomenArtistUpdates on a well-deserved break. Ipiggott and I have made a start on two of the new events. There are still a number of decisions to be made. Please help!--Oronsay (talk) 23:24, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can create the invite after we finalize which events we'll be doing this month, Ipigott having mentioned the possibility of "nobility" and/or "geofocus" on the main WiR talkpage earlier today. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:46, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Rosiestep. I have some concerns about nobility as the women must be much more than "wife of ...". As well as the idea of Islands A, B & C, we need to consider our annual collaboration with CEE Women. Oronsay (talk) 01:54, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the collaboration with CEE Women as our third focus makes the most sense. Penny Richards (talk) 03:26, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Oronsay, for moving ahead in WAU's absence. CEE women has traditionally been our Geofocus (see #270 and earlier years). Islands seems to me to be a good idea but I therefore suggest we leave it for future months, e.g. starting in June. As Nobility is not considered appropriate, that leaves us with Press women and U to W with CEE as geofocus. That seems to be all we need unless anyone would like to suggest an additional topic or any further changes. And how about tip of the month?--Ipigott (talk) 05:54, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've okayed Alphabet run but it contains a redlinked category in the first box: Category:WikiProject Women in Red meetup 306 articles. Perhaps, MSGJ, this should be created as for #305.--Ipigott (talk) 06:07, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
CEE Women sounds great! Will that be #307? As soon as the numbering is confirmed, I'll get started on the invite. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:41, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I've made CEE Women #307 and will now draft that page. Oronsay (talk) 20:22, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For Tip of the Month, if there are no new proposals, may I suggest the following:
Wow! I didn't realize we'd been doing Tip of the Month for 18 months already. I like your suggestion, Ipigott as it not only links to 18 tips in one fell swoop, but is a reminder that we've been providing this service for quite some time. That said, I like the timeliness of Oronsay's tip as it ties in with #1Lib1Ref. Perhaps we could postpone the "look through" tip to October (if I did my math right) when it would be 24 months? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:24, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've drafted it. It's incomplete; awaiting finalization of the Tip of the Month. For the logo, I added Victuallers' badge. Other possibilities: collage logo? librarian logo? (The librarian logo would support #1lib1ref campaign which is occurring during May.) --Rosiestep (talk) 16:44, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The badge looks good to me. I've enlarged it a bit so that it can be seen to contain text. So Lajmmoore, everything now seems ready to go.--Ipigott (talk) 05:56, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Ipigott - will get to it now! Lajmmoore (talk) 06:13, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Press

[edit]

To coincide with the UN's declaration that World Press Freedom Day occurs on May 3, and in support of the newest EN-WP women-related WikiProject, WP:WikiProject Women Do News, I'm suggesting we do something like "Press Women" in May. Women journalists are included in our annual "Women Writers" event, but "Press Women" would go beyond journalists to include the photographers, the newspapers/magazines/journals created by women, their conferences, notable books about women of the press, etc. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:29, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I plan on filling out more text in the skeleton pages in the upcoming days, but anyone wanting to help is warmly welcomed. Comments on Geofocus Islands appreciated. Which logo would you like on the invite? Pride or Music? I grabbed the "tip of the month" off the list. Not married to it. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:44, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like the Music logo, please. Pride has been on the Invitation for the last two years. It will still appear on the Pride Event page. Oronsay (talk) 00:52, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Let's use the music logo for the invitation.--Ipigott (talk) 05:52, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The page we have not expanded is the island geofocus. That event has two issues: it brings our # of events for June to four, and also I can't tell from the comments if there is group enthusiasm for this. Push it back or change to focus? geofocus is not my thing, but it is a big motivator for others. My own opinion is that we keep the number of new events to three and I think both music and pride will be good draws, So I'd like to move it down the ideas list, to august or September, for when we need something. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:00, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

also, I am typing one handed, so excuse the typos and be gentle on my omissions. thanks. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:00, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a 1 to shifting islands to later in the year. We've got a great line-up for June without it. Hope your other hand is back in service soon, WomenArtistUpdates; hugs. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:44, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I believe it was Rosiestep who originally suggested islands, I agree with her suggestion that we should leave it for later. I hope nevertheless that lack of any geofocus in June will be the exception rather than the rule. Focus on people from specific countries has consistently attracted significant interest and has become a traditional item in our repertoire. I therefore hope very much that there will be consensus to include it again in July, no doubt with the first round of islands.--Ipigott (talk) 06:00, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This month's CEE women is the first Geofocus for 2024. Perhaps starting the Islands in July may work well with the Translation Contest? I'm happy to work on the event page whenever we decide to run it. Oronsay (talk) 06:52, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone up for proof-reading the June items? --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:26, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@WomenArtistUpdates, thanks for all your work! Sounds good re: the islands move to September when there are fewer events planned. I've proofread the alphabet run page. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 22:09, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I added two (and old one and a new one I created), but I'm out of further ideas. I tried making a list for the Hugo Awards but discovered there's only one female winner without an article (illustrator Geneva Bowers)). Left the list active for future award winners but didn't bother adding it to the event page. Gamaliel (talk) 00:41, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are we not restarting the alphabet run from A this month? Gamaliel (talk) 18:22, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good question, Gamaliel! I've grown so accustomed to it being a regular feature that I didn't give it any thought on this planning page. If we take a break in July, when might it start up again? --Rosiestep (talk) 23:47, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a table showing articles contributed up to today. In nearly every case more were created in the current iteration:
2022-3 2023-4
A&B 174 188
C&D 131 153
E&F 144 111
G&H 127 127
I&J 104 125
K&L 112 187
M&N 167 190
O&P 93 106
Q&R 68 85
S&T 116 149
U–W 89 124
X–Z 50 29 (to 22 Jun)
Totals 1375 1545
Should we just go again now? It's not hard to set up and all the redlists are prepared. Oronsay (talk) 03:55, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I thought we were giving the alphabet a rest. We have a 3 month translation contest starting in July and then a 3 month Geofocus: Islands starting in September. Those multi-month meet-ups were pushed back until the alphabet run was over. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 17:29, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The alpha run really generates a lot of articles. How about restarting it in October, e.g., three month break? --Rosiestep (talk) 22:08, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1 support for this. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 21:52, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I wouldn't like to a see a break longer than necessary. I'm not a major contributor here, but clearly the alphabet run has been increasing in popularity rather than being overdone. As someone who's been contributing BLPs for footballers, it's useful to have the incentive to create new articles based on this, as every year there are newly notable women to create articles for. I understand for editors creating BDP articles it's probably getting a bit old though. CNC (talk) 17:08, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7, MSGJ, and all WIR helpers: I think we are ready for some proof reading and approving. I set 'em up, so don't trust my judgement, but it looks like all the buttons and links work. We still don't have a tip of the month. I looked at the running list of suggestions, but I can't figure how to turn any of them into a bite-size morsel. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:06, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My big concern about both the Translation Contest and Women in Sports is that bios must meet notability for English Wikipedia. I was reminded of the latter just this month when several Olympian athletes' bios I created were deleted/PRODed. Alternatively, perhaps these warnings should be adapted for every event page? Tip suggestions:
  • A foreign language bio does not guarantee notability for English Wikipedia. Check the guidelines before you start.
  • Check your athlete’s notability before researching and creating her bio.
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Oronsay (talkcontribs) 13:56, June 26, 2024 (UTC)
Oronsay, I think you raise a good point. How about if we put the caution about artists athletes in the tip of the Month for July, put the notice on the translation contest page, and then use it as tip of the month in August when the translation contest is still going on? We have tried many ways to ask people to check notability before creating, but highlighting it in Tip of the Month is a great reminder (and heads off future deletions for new editors). --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 23:20, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a question. In the title "Women in Science Fiction and Fantasy" is the "Women in" part redundant because the whole project is about women? Would "Science Fiction and Fantasy" be more succinct or do you feel it is important to emphasise that the event is about women — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:33, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MSGJ, I just shortened it to Science Fiction and Fantasy. Looking theough are events, we are not consistent with the "Women in" part, but it's nice to have if we have the space. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:21, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have made a few edits on #311 but realize I will be excluded as a competitor in view of the requirement "All contributions should however be based on articles published in other language versions of Wikipedia". The reason is that I frequently discover short or poorly developed biographies in other languages (especially in the Scandinavian languages), which are about people who deserve to be covered in English too. While I consistently state my English article is "inspired" by the version in another language, I seldom translate anything from the foreign language version itself although I often find valuable indications of notability. I usually start afresh by drawing on at least three informative sources (some may even be listed in the foreign version) in order to create an English article which meets at least start class requirements. But as I do not expect to create more than a handful of "translated" biographies each month, please don't worry about this. I fully support an initiative to encourage new biographies based on translations of the many well presented biographies in other languages. I look forward to following its progress.--Ipigott (talk) 12:08, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like we need fresh eyes on 2 pages: Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Outreach/2024#July 2024 and Translation contest 2024. They both look good to me, but I have been looking at them for days.
Thanks for the edits Ipigott! BTW- I think "inspired" by version could count towards your total translation tally. I, too, find the European version often have so many uncited claims that I prefer to start from scratch. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 13:43, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to have added {{WikiProject Science Fiction}} to the "Add to article talk page" section for Event 312, but no longer know how to do it.--Oronsay (talk) 19:58, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oronsay: Thanks for this suggestions. I have drawn attention to the template under "New articles" on #312. I think it will be more noticeable here than in the "Add to talk page" box which can remain standard for all events.--Ipigott (talk) 06:02, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I imagine it's because the event hasn't started yet and all will be clear when 1 July UTC ticks over.--Oronsay (talk) 20:50, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Translation contest 2024 July, August, September

[edit]

See suggestion made here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red#translation contest 2024. Last time we did it: #227 in April-May-June 2022. What about scheduling it for June-July-August 2024? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:04, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rosiestep and Nattes à chat, If WiR does another translation event I think we should wait until the Alphabet Run ends, so start in July rather than June. Also, are either of you willing to be the point person for tallying articles, or should we use a Fountain registration? The Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/227 page shows the outcomes and general setup for the 2022 version. The talk page of the event gives an idea of the behind the scenes mechanics and barnstars etc. for the 2022 version. I am pinging Oronsay because it would be great to have their feed-back about moving the event and housekeeping tasks. Also pinging Lajmmoore who worked on the last translation event. An example of a Fountain event is Wikipedia:100 DC Women. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:06, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Starting in July makes sense, WomenArtistUpdates. Unfortunately, I won't be able to help with supportive tasks (because of the other hat that I wear). But I certainly look forward to participating! --Rosiestep (talk) 06:27, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping, @WomenArtistUpdates. I'm afraid I have absolutely no experience with the logistics of this sort of contest and regret I am unable to take it on, given what I currently do towards WIR's overall statistics, running gender reports etc. I have, however, worked out how to create event pages using the new system and am happy to update redlists and proofread pages. Oronsay (talk) 01:12, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Oronsay! Thanks for the response. Sorry I stated it poorly, but I wanted your opinion of moving the event, I did not mean to suggest you help monitor. Your plate is waaaay too full. That said, I have moved the event to July. WiR does love a challenge and we keeping kicking challenge/contest suggestions down the road because of the effort involved. I think it is time to try out the Fountain tool as a way of tallying entries. Gamaliel has graciously, in the past (years ago??), offered to walk me through setting it up and I will probably be asking for their help at the end of June. It will also be an opportunity to more fully understand how an event template spans months (July through September). I'll be pinging MSGJ for guidance on that as well. Thanks for the offer to participate in the page set up...you know we want/need you for that :) Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:38, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WomenArtistUpdates: it's a great tool, and @Nattes à chat helped me a lot getting the tool set up for the Francophone Women Writers' Fortnight back in March so she might well have some tips as you set it up. I'm very happy to help out if I can too, although July will be a busy month for me due to a personal life event happening in August. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 04:02, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Very helpful having someone with recent experience of the tool. Don't worry, @Chocmilk03, the setting up and prep will be in June, prior to July commencement. Oronsay (talk) 08:43, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh this is so great, I look forward to it. I did not really understand what you wanted me to do @WomenArtistUpdates ? Nattes à chat (talk) 22:40, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nattes à chat! My ping to you is to invite you to help with this event. Whatever your strengths: coding, admin, proof-reading, redlist creation, or just your knowledge from the last translation event. I am thinking the group should all touch base about this in early June. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:44, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fine I understand. This would be my first time ever helping WIR in organuzing so I look forward to it. I know how to set up a fountain tool so I can help with that. Nattes à chat (talk) 19:29, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Nattes à chat, help with the Fountain tool would be great. We all be pinged mid-June to get to work on the July events and your assistance will be appreciated. Oronsay (talk) 20:31, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • In July 2024, for the second time we are embarking on a three-month translation contest or "translatathon" focused on the translation of biographies of women from other language versions of Wikipedia. For each of the three months, July, August and September, there will be virtual awards for the top three contributors of acceptable new translated articles as well as awards for totals over the full three months. If they wish, contributors may translate from the same foreign language throughout the contest. (Translations from English into other languages are not acceptable for this contest.)
  • In line with other Wikipedia contests, articles must have at least 160 words or 1,000 characters of running text (excluding references, lists, boxes and headings) and should have at least two reliable secondary references (three for biographies of living people). Articles translated from shorter versions in other languages will qualify only if they are extended to meet these requirements.
WomenArtistUpdates, Can I just say how happy I am with this? Thanks for pulling it together! Rosiestep (talk) 15:13, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi everybody. From July 22th to September 22th will took place (on line) the Wiki Loves Sport 2024 campaign ideated and organized by WikiDonne since 2019 to write about sport-related topics on the Wikimedia projects. The campaign will cover the whole period of Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and to write . Till now, other affiliates signed to participate (COD, WMFR, CMW). As I'm setting the sitenotice banner, I would be happy to know that someone from WiR can participate, so I can also add en as language. In case, the Who? section is the place to add the link to the page in enwiki, the Affiliates or groups is the place for the logo and here is the campaign in Dashboard for the metrics (just create a new program starting from this campaign). I find the annual "Indigenous women" rather stressful as it is so easy to get things wrong and upset people, with all the questions of "Who is really a xxxx?" which make it tricky for ignorant outsiders. PamD 20:18, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm with you PamD. Terribly tricky topic in North America. I don't go near it after being scolded for my poor understanding of tribes and who-knows-what-all. We are in the minority though, so I am hoping a fan will work on that page. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:50, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with both of you. I see that last year 48 bios were created and a further 20 improved. I find it tricky to write about our First Nations women in Australia, too, and therefore I mostly avoid it and leave it to others. Oronsay (talk) 04:19, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Understand the worries (and it's a shame that people have been made to feel as if they've done something wrong by trying to contribute to closing a significant knowledge gap), but I think last year went well and hopefully it will be the same this year. :) Chocmilk03 (talk) 09:36, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What about adding Women in Sports? I never contribute to the area myself, but there are so many editors who do enjoy it and the events commonly yields a lot of new articles, particularly as there will be significant coverage in the days ahead due to the Summer Olympics (July 26, 2024 – August 11, 2024). --Rosiestep (talk) 11:04, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea, @Rosiestep. Yes, we could run Women in Sports for a second month and give editors a chance to add medals to existing and recently created bios, making them notable. Also, the Tip of the Month applies. Oronsay (talk) 21:32, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Would we need to start a new event, or could the 313 event just be extended? Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 21:41, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It would make sense just to extend it, if people agree. Oronsay (talk) 22:21, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Extending it sounds logical (and easy). --Rosiestep (talk) 00:09, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fine with me Oronsay. Will you do the necessary edits or shall I? --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:52, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Would be great if you do it, @WomenArtistUpdates. Am snowed under with 50 participants of Franklin Women editathon on today and tomorrow. Oronsay (talk) 22:59, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi MSGJ, Would you check my coding on the new and "ongoing" pages? I think I extended Sports through August correctly. Thank you. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 23:12, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7, MSGJ, and all WIR helpers: I think we are ready for some proof reading and quality control. "Indigenous women" looks good to me. I believed I have extended Sports correctly. The "clickable" multi colors buttons should sort themselves out when the caledar rolls over or by MSGJ (I think he may be on a break). So take a look at the pages with a red x. The "Indigenous women" logo at the top of this page is a draft. It only appears on that landing page and the talkpage template. I've used stage and screen for the invite. Everybody happy with the tip of the month? Looks like there are no announcements from sister projects. Discuss :) --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:50, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lajmmoore, Would you have time in the next couple of says to send out the August invite? --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:05, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

All: apologies for reverting the above. Apparently I hit a button or link without even realizing it, as I had no idea it had happened until my reversion had itself been reverted. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:29, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do Islands! BUT I can't do the mass message as I'll be away until 30th August - @Victuallers would you be able to do it? Lajmmoore (talk) 17:57, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WomenArtistUpdates, I'll do Writers. I LOVE the tip, @Rosiestep. I hadn't known about those lists before. Oronsay (talk) 18:42, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Glad I mentioned it, Oronsay. Added the cat to the tip, as it's applicable, too for pen names. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:36, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great addition, @Rosiestep! While going through the writers' redlists and removing the blue links, I found one writer to add to each list, making them more discoverable, so it's been useful already. Oronsay (talk) 22:43, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WomenArtistUpdates & @MSGJ For #316, I would like to add WikiProject Women writers under the side heading Add to article talk pages, in addition to WikiProject Women and WikiProject Women's History. Similarly, it would be good to know how to add WikiProject Women artists for the Art Feminism event each year. I have spent some time trying to work out how to make the addition using the new template system, but failed.--Oronsay (talk) 23:22, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oronsay and MSGJ, I went to Science Fiction and Fantasy and copied the code from there in 316. I think I've got it right. Just a little widget in the header of the target page, not the template. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:23, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much, @WomenArtistUpdates. I thought it would be something like that, tried various combinations but didn't get it right. Now to remember for next time! Oronsay (talk) 03:18, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh Oronsay, I can never remember from one month to the next, just a vague recollection that we have solved that problem before. Also, I think the templates are set and we would be tinkering with the meetup page to add elements. Still learning though :) That said, I sure could do a lot of set up in the 1/2 hour I had available to me yesterday morning when I remembered that the to-do list was overdue. I am a convert to the templates. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:59, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7, MSGJ and all WIR helpers: Looking for some proof readers and green check marks. I have used the writers logo from last year. Is that OK with everyone? The Ten Year Anniversary of WikiProject Women writers is in the announcements section. Look OK? Two pages need reviewing, Women writers and Islands A - H. They both look good to me, but I drafted the skeletons. Finally we are looking for a mass-mailer emeritus to send out September once everything is OK'd. Megalibrarygirl, Rosiestep, Innisfree987, or Victuallers would one of you be able to do that? Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:03, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can do the MassMessaging if no one else volunteers to do so. -- Rosiestep (talk) 12:58, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Geofocus: Islands A - H

[edit]

Islands A, B & C was suggested for May on the WIR Talk page, but held over due to our annual collaboration on CEE Women. If we go ahead with all the above events, it makes five, plus our two year-long ones. Is this too many?--Oronsay (talk) 20:17, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have we done islands before or do redlists etc. need to be created? Is there an existing list of islands? Sorry, I missed the original suggestion and cant find it on the talk page now, probably been archived. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:09, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is still on the suggestion list, but as of the 13th, no responses on content creation. Anyone want to own this? --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:40, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I suggested "islands" but I don't think we've ever done it before. It was just a passing idea so no worries if it doesn't gain traction. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:36, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looking through our Wikidata Redlists, the following exist: A, B & C: American Samoa, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Bermuda, Cape Verde, Cook Islands, Cuba and Cyprus. It was suggested that the big island I live on (Australia) should not be included, but perhaps women from islands (Kangaroo Island, Thursday Island, Tasmania and so on) could be added under the appropriate letter – no redlists exist for these. Ditto, for Shetland Islands and very many others. For D, E & F: Dominica, Dominican Republic, East Timor, Faroe Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia. For G, H & I: Greenland, Grenada, Guam, Haiti, Hong Kong, Iceland. For J, K & L: Jamaica, Japan, Kiribati seem to be the only ones. M, N & O: Madagascar, Maldives, Malta, Isle of Man, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mayotte, Federated States of Micronesia, Montserrat, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Northern Cyprus, Northern Mariana Islands. For P, Q & R: Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Réunion, Rodrigues. S, T & U: Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, São Tomé and Príncipe, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu. V, U, W, X, Y & Z: Vanuatu – so we may need to make it S–Z. There are also many islands to be found in the following crowd-sourced lists prepared for the 2017 World Contest: Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, Europe and Oceania. I also thought of Hawaii, for which there is a Wikidata list for Notable Women of Hawaii (dictionary). We could also make it A–F; G–L; M–R and S–Z, if preferred. Oronsay (talk) 07:36, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Oronsay: That's a very helpful analysis, thanks! PamD 14:26, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lajmmoore, Oronsay, PamD, and WomenArtistUpdates: - Good idea. If we find that it's a hit, we could always repeat it next year split into 4, or 6 groupings. Likewise, we could do something similar (split by alphabet) with countries ... in 2025? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:24, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the TIP OF THE MONTH, maybe one of our Women in Green friends could suggest something that they think is overlooked but important? --Rosiestep (talk) 22:20, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
RE: Archaeologists | Engineers - there was a suggestion on the WiR talk page, low down in the section, that Engineers could be a good theme for November (& there seems to be space). We could have STEM and archaeology pages perhaps? The Archaeology Women's Taskforce has quite a specific list of c.25 new article and c.125 stubs to expand - which could be really satisfying to solve. Articles not on the list also welcome! Please do say if people disagree though!
  • I'd be happy to make an Archaeology page and/or Islands (though @Grnrchst might like to as they've made loads of nice new redlists for this month)

Suggestion - Archaeologists (and perhaps Engineers)

[edit]

Tentatively suggesting an archaeology focus for October? Archaeology because we were recently reminded by @Joe Roe: that Wikiproject Archaeology/Women in Archaeology Taskforce is very close to completing some of its goals & we (I) wondered whether we might use October to run an event to support the taskforce's objective. October is relevant as 17 October is International Archaeology Day. The tasks left are discussed here, and include

  • 20 articles from the target redlist (see here)
  • De-stubbing 157 articles (see here)

What do other people think? Of course, articles on women in archaeology outside these lists are incredibly welcome too! Lajmmoore (talk) 19:35, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing this here Lucy. It would be great to have a follow up to the last archaeology events in 2016 and 2018. Honestly, I'm not sure how much potential there is left in the crowd-sourced redlist, but there are 5000 on the wikidata list. Or I don't know if WiR has ever loosened its scope enough to do a destubathon? That'd be cool too. – Joe (talk) 19:44, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Commonly, in October, Women in Red facilitates its annual STEM Women event in association with Ada Lovelace Day (second Tuesday of October). So Archaeologists would certainly be part of that... but perhaps this year, it could be a special focus? --Rosiestep (talk) 21:41, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. Are the WP:WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome folks in the loop on this? And WP:WikiProject Women's Classical Committee? The latter has always been supportive when I posted about new archaeologist/classics scholar biographies in the past. Penny Richards (talk) 00:29, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello from the WP:WikiProject Women's Classical Committee (which Lajmmoore is also part of!) - this sounds great and we've agreed to give our October editing session (date TBC but usually around the 20th-25th of the month) an archaeology redlist/stub focus to tie in with this! Eritha (talk) 13:30, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree archaeologists deserve to be covered but as a result of increased interest in engineers (see WiR's talk page), I suggest we give separate focus to them too. Both could be introduced as specific items of interest in connection with our traditional October coverage of women in STEM. Personally, to avoid confusion and emphasize focus, I would prefer them to be listed as separate events.--Ipigott (talk) 15:26, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks, I did understand that. I was mostly joking. My only very selfish concern (as the Pinterest board keeper) is that we will likely have three groups of articles (picture the Venn diagram I'm not going to draw here): Articles about engineers listed under the STEM editathon, articles about engineers listed under the Engineering editathon, and articles that are listed on both pages. If all the engineers are also listed under STEM, that's fine, I can skip checking the Engineering list for new faces; if none of them are also listed under STEM, I can check both lists for new faces, but not worry about duplicates, so that's also fine. But, editors being human, it's likely to be a mix of situations, and it's just always a little more work for me when some-but-not-all articles are listed under multiple editathons. But this happens other months, not just with the STEM/Engineers combination. I will survive. There might be slightly more risk of duplicate pins. It's fine. Penny Richards (talk) 20:13, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To add to your workload, there will probably also be engineers who work as academics and may be added to that year-long initiative. Oronsay (talk) 00:34, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is all very reasonable. I'm still getting up to speed with how this (wiki WiR) works. This is complex though but I'm sure there are others here who may be able to suggest solutions/advise editors. I think that for the Nov Eng event we can focus on page creation. Consequently this could be managed through the date of article acceptance for example. I don't know if this would work. TheResilientEngineer (talk) 14:20, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question regarding the name of #321: currently, "Women in Asia", but what about "Asian women" (which would include diaspora), or even just "Asia"? --Rosiestep (talk) 18:34, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rosiestep, Good suggestion.  Done --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:43, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, Every November I usually include a few women who had careers in Asia (educators, medical missionaries, diplomats, etc.), but many of them wouldn't make sense to include if the title is "Asian women". Which is fine, it's nice to switch it up and include the diaspora; just adding another perspective on the title. Penny Richards (talk) 22:32, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging TheResilientEngineer. You offered to work on redlists for engineers. Any updates? Thanks. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:56, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey I've cleaned up this list Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Engineering to take out all the blue links (bar one that popped up recently). I would like to extend it to other geographies but I don't know who the engineering institutions are for them so it's a bit difficult to find lists to work from. Happy for others to add, it's clean and I've extended it a bit. TheResilientEngineer (talk) 16:26, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've also drafted the women in engineering Event page using the STEM one as a template.
The red lists don't seem to disaggregate by discipline (except for civil engineers) so the list of red lists is not as extensive as for say STEM. I hope that's okay? Or are there suggestions on how to navigate this? TheResilientEngineer (talk) 17:24, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks TheResilientEngineer! It looks good to me. I have no understanding of engineering though. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:15, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WomenArtistUpdates so if I wanted to create a redlist of women Impressionists.....how do we do that? I'm still new to wiki and very much still learning. I think it might be helpful to be able to create lists of:
  • Civil Engineers
  • Mechanical Engineers
  • Chemical Engineers
  • Electrical Engineers
  • Biomedical Engineers
  • Materials Scientists (If this doesn't already exist elsewhere)
TheResilientEngineer (talk) 08:26, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I worked it out. We now have some separate redlists TheResilientEngineer (talk) 10:17, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe then 'Asia' is the one to go for as its most expansive? Lajmmoore (talk) 08:52, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Event #323: Women in engineering basically just needs reviewing and it's ready to go. I've tried extending the CS redlist to other countries by looking for members of national academies. There's a few folks I've added that are really good candidates for pages. So hopefully we'll be able to make quite a few great biographies! TheResilientEngineer (talk) 14:37, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I started 'Islands - Q to Z' so it needs a review Lajmmoore (talk) 09:08, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7, MSGJ and all WIR helpers: We need some more eyes please. Proof read and add green check. If you are shy about the green check, just add your name to participants. If anyone is still interested in "Nobility" or "pending drafts", move the proposal into 2025, selecting a month that needs filling. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:52, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have made a number of changes to both #321 and #322 so don't feel able to sign off on them. Oronsay (talk) 02:31, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Per the announcement on the main WiR talkpage here, I've added mention of this campaign in the invite's "ANNOUNCEMENTS (EVENTS FACILITATED BY OTHERS)" section, but feel free to remove it if you feel like the announcement on our talkpage is sufficient. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:10, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think drawing WIR members' attention to the two Project clean-up lists is a v. good idea. Do others agree? Oronsay (talk) 14:56, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Me too. I changed the red box to a green check and will put it in the invitation. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:46, 26 October 2024 (UTC

There's a list that seems very out of date. I can have a go at updating it. But will need help in all likelihood. There is time though! Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Engineering TheResilientEngineer (talk) 17:29, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am pretty burnt out on this task, so I leave it to y'all to hash out how you would do Winter sports, Get to 20, and/or De-orphan December. Religion and 2024 need text. We need a Tip of the month and any announcements. There shouldn't be coding issues at this point. Just look at a relevant page and work it out. It wouldn't be a template that needs editing, it would be putting info into the page correctly. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 02:03, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @WomenArtistUpdates for getting us started for December. I will draft W324 Women who died in 2024. I have just this week created the WiR Redlist for Deaths 2024, which I have just added to the Redlist page. Oronsay (talk) 02:59, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @WomenArtistUpdates for getting us started. Perhaps we can agree someone else to get things started next month/year. Between Religion and the deaths in 2024 and the push for 20% I think there is a danger of spreading ourselves too thin if we also add in the De-orphan december. I wonder is @Lajmmoore might agree that this could actually be a tip? I like that you've highlighted how doing some de-orphaning can also help identifying new biographies to cover which then contributes to the push for 20%. TheResilientEngineer (talk) 08:45, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TheResilientEngineer: To be honest, judging by how close we're getting, I'm not sure we'll end up needing a dedicated "Get to 20" event. Maybe a notice on each of the monthly events (and maybe on the Project front page) encouraging people to help us get over the line will be enough? --Grnrchst (talk) 10:06, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We at the other WiR would be happy to help. This weekend, many of our members are presenting an editathon at a religious conference in San Diego, but I'll let them know. Personally, I like the longer alt title, since it's how we describe things. Please direct users to our project page. Our next editing session is December 9 at 10 pm UTC; here is the link: https://tulane.zoom.us/j/95434400202?pwd=N0lEQzFFTHZNRXk0NE44M3RxUWtkUT09#success. Thanks and best, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 17:31, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind De-Orphaning not being a theme - maybe next year? I think the overlinking tip is a good one. Lajmmoore (talk) 09:51, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • As no one seemed interested in developing #325, I've finally had a go at it myself although I am not at all comfortable about editing in the new automated environment. I would have liked to change the title to simply Religion as all our articles are about women but can't see the title on the project page. In the old days we were also able to introduce images but I can no longer see where these should be. So perhaps others such as WomenArtistUpdates will be able to assist. I also hope Figureskatingfan, Dzingle1 and other participants in WP Women in Religion will enhance the section on redlinks and perhaps comment in the introduction on the report they presented at Wikimedia. Fortunaa might like to add something on the June presentation at the American Academy of Religion. Any other pertinent background would of course be useful. With apologies for lack of competence: --Ipigott (talk) 16:20, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be so honored, but the true genius behind the AAR presentations is RosPost. She arranged them, and invited me in, along with others from Women in Religion. Clifford Anderson in our group also arranged one at Yale, where he works. That said, I'm always happy to comment once the two of them are in the conversation! Annual 2024

[edit]
  • Religion
  • To be more inclusive, would we want to consider referring to it as Religious, spiritual, and wisdom traditions (a descriptor used by Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Religion)? However, this is quite long. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:06, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Get to 20

[edit]

According to my projections of the increasing numbers of women's biographies, the number of women's biographies should be hitting 20% of all biographies by the end of the year. I wondered if it would perhaps be worth doing an end-of-year edit-a-thon to help us nudge it over the line. Unlike the usual themed characters of our monthly edit-a-thons, this one could be more of a free-for-all to encourage as much creation as possible. Just an idea. --Grnrchst (talk) 08:14, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

De-orphan December

[edit]

Adding a suggestion here for a deorphaning theme: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Women_in_Red#de-orphaning_as_monthly_initiative? However, looking I wonder if December might be a bit full with other themes? Lajmmoore (talk) 06:23, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I did quite a lot of deorphaning in August-September and think that making it one of several themes is a good idea. There is little point in several people trying to deorphan the same article and finding it has already been done. We should encourage volunteers to add links which improve the articles edited, rather than to deorphan articles at any cost. Deorphaning is also a good opportunity to see whether the article can be improved in other ways. TSventon (talk) 16:54, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
