Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Coordinators/2021/1

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Overview

[edit]

This page is an election of WikiProject coordinators—consisting of one Lead Coordinator and a number of assistant coordinators—for the Guild of Copy Editors (GOCE). Coordinators elected on this page will serve a six-month term beginning at 00:00 on 1 January 2021 and ending at 23:59 on 30 June[a]. GOCE elections are open to all Wikipedians in good standing[b] and self-nominations are welcome.

The project coordinators are responsible for maintaining the procedural and administrative aspects of the project. They are the designated points of contact for procedural issues and are responsible for ensuring the project as a whole is properly informed of them.

Here are some examples of coordinator duties:
  • organize and promote Backlog Elimination Drives and Blitzes;
  • assist project members with any questions and concerns;
  • ensure project announcements and task lists are kept up-to-date;
  • initiate drafting of guidelines needed by the project;
  • organize the category system;
  • oversee the recruitment of new members, including the use of project notices and other advertising methods;
  • create and maintain any collaborative projects;
  • maintain the project pages and the guidelines on them in a clean and easy-to-use state; and
  • monitor technical policies and ensure project templates satisfy them.

The coordinator positions do not confer any executive power.

Positions

[edit]
  • Lead Coordinator (one open position): will have overall responsibility for procedural and administrative matters within the project.
  • Coordinator (2–4 open positions): will assist the Lead Coordinator by focusing on specific areas within the project that require special attention. These areas will be selected based on need and interest among the coordinators.

Election process

[edit]
  • The nomination process ran for two weeks from December 1, 00:01 UTC until December 15, 23:59 UTC.
  • The election process will run for two weeks from December 16, 00:01 UTC until December 31, 23:59 UTC.
  • Any member of the project may nominate themselves for either position by creating a new section under Nominations below and copying the sample form below. Nominees only interested in one position should indicate this when adding their names. Candidates need not make extensive statements if they do not wish to do so.
  • The elections will be conducted using simple approval voting. Any member of the project may support any number of nominees for either position. If a nominee is running for both positions and you wish to support them for only one, please make a note to that effect as part of your vote.
  • Both project members and interested outside parties are encouraged to ask questions of the nominees or to make general comments.

Tenryuu (talk · contribs) • Interested in Coordinator position only.

I am very pleased that Tenryuu has given me permission to nominate them to be a Coordinator. Tenryuu has been involved in the Guild since 2018, and this year in particular they have been the biggest individual contributor to our Drives, with an armload of gold and silver leaderboard awards to prove it. They are careful, consistent, and considerate, and would in my opinion make an excellent addition to the Coordinator team! Tdslk (talk) 03:10, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  1. @Tenryuu: Would you care to say anything about which coordinator tasks you feel you'd like to tackle? – Reidgreg (talk) 17:34, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    Reidgreg, I think I would like to start off with keeping announcements up to date; as an example I've taken the liberty of giving updates to GOCE events over at the community portal this past month. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) (🎁 Wishlist! 🎁) 18:33, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm willing to serve a term as a new coordinator. I've been copy editing for the guild since 2014, having participated in 40 drives and 25 blitzes.

Jonesey95

[edit]

Jonesey95 (talk · contribs) • Interested in Lead Coordinator or Coordinator position.

I am happy to serve again if you'll have me. I am always willing to drop down to a regular Coordinator position if someone wants to infuse a bit more energy into this place.

I see my role as making sure things happen on time and on budget. I don't always need to take the lead, because we have a great set of coordinators, but I try to ensure that nothing slips through the cracks. Drives and Blitzes start and end on time, barnstars are given out, pages stay updated, and disputes get resolved (thankfully, we have few of these at the GOCE). You can expect more of the same in the first half of 2021.

Proposal to induct Tdslk into the GOCE Hall of Fame

[edit]

For long and distinguished service: ten years with the Guild and nine consecutive terms as Coordinator (since July 2016), quality copy-editing, gnomishly updating drive statistics, guiding new members, helping to keep this "favorite corner of the Wikipedia community" a drama-free zone, and so much more. I feel that it is more than warranted to recognize this dedication and nominate Tdslk (talk · contribs) to be inducted into the illustrious ranks of the GOCE Hall of Fame. – Reidgreg (talk) 20:12, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
