What's going on?

[edit]

I am a recognized subject matter expert on IPTV and VoIP performance, and created two information portals related to this topic. The information portals are educational and informative, and are non-commercial. I added the www.iptvtroubleshooter.com link to the IPTV article, which already had some content related to IPTV performance. This link was deleted by Gwernol on the basis that it was a COI. As I have written extensively on this subject, and am very active in standards development, it is difficult to contribute to Wikipedia without referring to material that I've written.

What would you like to change about that?

[edit]

I would like to be able to add links to the www.iptvtroubleshooter.com, www.voiptroubleshooter.com web sites and to some educational application notes to the iptv article and to other related articles on VoIP and IPTV quality and performance.

Issue:- I'm a subject matter expert in the VoIP and IPTV performance area, have written extensively on the subject and created several (objective) informative web sites .. www.iptvtroubleshooter.com and www.voiptroubleshooter.com. Links to these sites would be useful to Wikipedia articles on these subjects and would fit within Wikipedia guidelines for content to be objective. Whenever I add a link to content I've created, it gets immediately deleted on the grounds that links are preferable from third parties however the administrator who deletes them does not take the time to actually look at the content of the link to see if it is truly useful and objective. I'm not aware of much useful material that I've not been involved in creating - hence it seems impossible to add material without running the risk of being eventually blocked. • Hello, Adclark; Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. I am sorry if you had a hard time trying to submitting information, especially if your intentions have been misunderstood by a sysop. But don't blame it on them; these sysops are volunteers, and are spending their spare time to help Wikipedia as well as warding it from spammers or commercially inclined editors seeking to edit the encyclopedia to their advantage, such as the USA Congressional staff edits to Wikipedia. Thus, I suggest that if you are adding content, try add them in a NPOV way, make sure that you're not accidentally supporting one company over another (I did not say you did, but just pointing out). The same applies to links. Also, you might as well link your informative web sites to pieces of information present within the article using footnotes, so as to make it easier for other people to check if the site is relevant to the article or not.
As for how you've been treated, what I think you have done is that you have added commercial sites to the link, which is frowned upon. And when you did that more than once, we may think that you are a spammer, or at least with the intention financial or commercial gain; so please understand that our sysops have no tolerance for those people. If that's not your objective, you may want to consult the Wikipedia:External Links guideline. If you added your links in accord with the guideline and your edits are still reversed, discuss on the talk page, and make sure that whoever's reversing those edits read it.
Anyway, why are you so intent with adding links, while you are the very person who is able to add (as in write) more information regarding your specialized topic (IPTV)?
