Wikipedia:Changing username/SUL/Rejected/1

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sereine → Serein

reason : I'm sysop @ French Wikipédia and have more contribs than him, who have parted since one year. Thanks --Sereine (talk) 00:31, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Normally, this usurpation would be denied, as the editor in question has over five thousand edits. In the past, unifying usernames cross-project has allowed disregard for newness of editors, and edits by the requested username. However, there are five thousand edits; this might be more than allowed. So a bureaucrat would need to make a pretty big discretion ruling here. It's also very similar to my username. XD seresin | wasn't he just...? 00:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Not done - the English Wikipedia has no policy that allows the renaming of accounts that have made GFDL significant edits in good faith without them agreeing to this. That position may need to be reviewed should proposals for unified login be implemented. Until such a time however, I cannot perform this request. WjBscribe 00:58, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually, WjB, SUL is underway : In a few days, this feature will be made available to sysops (hence to Serein). Would you reconsider her request ? Serein has more than 12K edits on fr: :)
NicDumZ ~ 14:00, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Well SUL has been about to happen many times and hasn't resulted in much. But I simply do not have this community's approval to perform this sort of rename. If SUL does start to happen, it will need a discussion here about how far the community feels bureaucrats should go to accommodate these sorts of request. I do agree that should SUL happen, Serein has the best claim to this name. WjBscribe 16:13, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
I'd like to point out a problem caused by this name conflict. As you may know, in some wikis such as de: transwikis are made when articles are translated, to keep the original history. Hence, contributions of the actual Serein from en are listed in Sereine's contributions in those projects, under the name "Serein", which she owns in every project but en:). This causes history problems because the contributions list of the user Serein in those wikis contain in fact edits of both users. Here's an example. IMHO, it's another reason to support the usurpation (which will, anyway, definitely have to be done some day). PieRRoMaN 21:14, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
There really isn't much point arguing about - its not something I can do. See m:Help:Unified login#Someone is using my name on another wiki, how can I get that account?: "If you want to usurp an account on another wiki, and that account has edits, you should make a request to a bureaucrat on the problem wiki. Subject to local policy, the bureaucrat may be able to rename the target account." The local policies of this project do not allow usurpation in these circumstances. That doesn't mean it never will, but at the moment this request is outside my discretion. WjBscribe 21:20, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
OK, I understand the problem. Thanks :-) --Sereine (talk) 21:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
The SUL is becoming now... could you think about it again ? Thanks :-) --Sereine (talk) 09:20, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

st-fl → Stefan

Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia. Due to licensing concerns, this may be a barrier to usurpation. Note: Target user has logged in and made many edits. Last edit of User:Stefan was 20 March 2008. --Cream (talk) 21:31, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Not done - the English Wikipedia has no policy that allows the renaming of accounts that have made GFDL significant edits in good faith without them agreeing to this. That position may need to be reviewed given the progress of the implementation of unified login. However, until the community decides that such requests should be performed, they lie outside bureaucrat discretion on this project. WjBscribe 21:35, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
So, I’ll have to ask User:Stefan for permission or wait until policies concerning SUL are developed? Thank you so far. :-) --Stefan 21:46, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Snakeyes_sv → Snakeyes

I wish to usurp Snakeyes if it's possible. The user does not make an edition since September 12, 2006. The reason for this request: SUL. I'm sysop and bureaucrat at es:wiki. Thank you so much!. --Snakeyes sv (talk) 00:42, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

WjBscribe 00:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I hope it can be done in the future. Thank you so much!! --Snakeyes sv (talk) 00:49, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Micke-sv → Micke

I have previously made the same request here:[1] My request was not fullfilled since the target user made an edit 8 days after my request was filed. I think however thar circumstanses has changed with the unified login, and en.wikipedia is the only conflict that has not been resolved (I have the global account Micke). The target name has made only nine edits, the last one in mid may 2007, and I think that it is unfair that this user who doesen't seem interested in contributing to Wikipedia should stand in the way of my unified account on the largest wiki, with only nine edits, when I have 12655 contributions in 24 projects (I am sysop in two of these projects) with this username. MiCkE 11:24, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia that are now deleted. Usernames with only deleted edits can usually be usurped.
  • The current owner of the target username does not have an email address specified. Decision is upon breaucrat... --Cream (talk) 17:02, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Not done I sympathise, but the English Wikipedia currently has no policy that allows the renaming of accounts that have made GFDL significant edits in good faith without them agreeing to this. That position is being reviewed (Wikipedia:SUL/Consultation on renames) given the progress of the implementation of unified login. However, until the community decides that such requests should be performed, they lie outside bureaucrat discretion on this project. WjBscribe 18:55, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
I know I'm not going to be the only one requesting this (and I'm probably not the first since SUL was implemented), is there somewhere we can save these SUL-related requests pending a new consensus on the matter? For easy and speedy processing once a new consensus is hammered out (as I'm sure it will be), I mean. MiCkE 19:07, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
That's a good idea. I'll create a page with these requests before they are archived. WjBscribe 00:33, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Great! MiCkE 08:11, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Nbuda → Buda

I'm using this username at all hungarian Wikimedia projects, and this is my first name. Nbuda (talk) 18:33, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Not done - sorry but this edit is one that require attributions. The English Wikipedia currently has no policy that allows the renaming of accounts that have made GFDL significant edits in good faith without them agreeing to this. That position is being reviewed (Wikipedia:SUL/Consultation on renames) given the progress of the implementation of unified login. However, until the community decides that such requests should be performed, they lie outside bureaucrat discretion on this project. WjBscribe 18:54, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Samaten → Samat

I tried to usurp this username in January but the target username said "NO". The target username has only this edit. Now I use my name in Unified login and I would like to use my name here too. "The new system only allows one user per name", so I hope it is possible. Regards! Samaten (talk) 21:10, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Note:
  • The target username meets the requirements for usurpation.
  • The current owner of the target username has an email address set, and an email has been sent by a clerk or bureaucrat to notify them of this request.
  • This usurpation has previously been declined because the request was refused by the target account. This may be performed at a bureaucrat's discretion due to the recent SUL implementation. Alexfusco5 21:49, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but I would note that {{usurpation requested}}, which is the message left on the page to notify of a usurpation request states that if people object to being renamed, they can just make an edit. If such an objecting edit has been made, how is this bureaucrat's discretion? --Tim4christ17 talk 08:21, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I note that this request would be unnecessary if I wouldn't had try to usurp this username in January because the target user wouldn't have any edits at this time, so I could unify this name. And I would like to ask about the status of my request. Samaten (talk) 11:00, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Not done -- sorry, but he has every right to turn you down. — Dan | talk 17:45, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Philopp → Wing

I am on the chinese Wikipedia. In en-Wikipedia I use the user name user:Philopp because user:Wing here is already occupied. But this user has not been active since 2003, so can you rename my user name so that I can make it identical with my other accounts? Thanx.--Philopp (talk) 06:57, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia that are now deleted. Usernames with only deleted edits can usually be usurped.
  • The current owner of the target username does not have an email address specified.
  • The Account 19 edits from 2003 --Chris 09:52, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Not done: Sorry, without some change in policy or instruction from the Foundation, we can't fulfill requests like this. — Dan | talk 17:57, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

gunter.krebs → GDK

I request the usurpation for meta:SUL, so I can use my global user name on the english wikipedia too. I have already a unified account named User:GDK . I had already requested to usurp this account earlier [2], which was denied, as the current user User:GDK has made only two edit ever (contribs), of which only one ([3]) was in an article and is IMHO not copyrightable because trivial, and thus does not require attribution. Would you please reconsider my usurp request. --Gunter.krebs (talk) 09:42, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Note:
  • The target username meets the requirements for usurpation.
  • The current owner of the target username does not have an email address specified.
  • If you have already unified your login, this request is impossible pending resolution of bug 13507 Alexfusco5 20:14, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
If merging is currently not possible, it would be fine to usurp the account without merging, so i can use the GDK account name for SUL. --Gunter.krebs (talk) 10:25, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
There was a previous usurp request which the account delcined diff --Chris 05:14, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Sounds fair. This request will be fulfilled as soon as the SUL bug is fixed. — Dan | talk 17:59, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

My error: I didn't see that the account itself had refused the usurpation. Sorry, can't do anything about that. — Dan | talk 18:11, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Not done - local policy does not currently allow accounts that object to be renamed. WjBscribe 17:30, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

New Concept Mandarin → fxl

Note:
  • The target username meets the requirements for usurpation.
  • The current owner of the target username does not have an email address specified.
Not done - user was renamed to something else. WjBscribe 19:07, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Wknight8111 → Whiteknight

The current owner of the "Whiteknight" account has made fewer then 10 edits, all of which are very minor or were made on talk pages. I'm known as "Whiteknight" on most other projects including on en.wikibooks (my home wiki where I'm a bureaucrat and checkuser), meta, chapcom.wikimedia, and others. As evidence of the confusion that this situation causes, notice that on User talk:Whiteknight most of the messages there are supposed to be for me (except for the two requests for usurpation that I left on that users's page, and one other message) SUL appears to be live as of this morning, at least for admins, and this account is preventing me from unifying my login. I also plan to keep and to unify the account User:Wknight8111 as well (I use that as a bot account on other wikis), but I can recreate the account if needed. If there are any questions I can be contacted via email or on my Wikibooks user talk page. --Whiteknight (talk) (books) 14:34, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia. Due to licensing concerns, this may be a barrier to usurpation.
While there are only few edits, and you own the global account, the edits are (IMO) significant, as well as very recent. seresin ( ¡? ) 22:53, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Not done - user has edited for some time, including recently. Current policy doesn't allow me to rename them without their agreement, sorry. WjBscribe 18:09, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Mikez → Mike

Request withdrawn. \Mike(z) 16:39, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Note:
Sure - and just how "GFDL significant" do you find these : [4], [5], [6] ? The "significant" others being of a line now and then, I guessed we just didn't read the same GFDL (the one which reads "List on the Title Page, as authors, one or more persons or entities responsible for authorship of the modifications in the Modified Version, together with at least five of the principal authors of the Document" - I see no mention of full authorship up to and including small changes of one line). Either you reject the idea of SUL altogether, or you'll have, at one time in the not too distant future, to reconsider this policy. Blinking Spirit (talk) 19:30, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:SUL/Consultation on renames for the way SUL will probably be handled. However bureaucrats will have to follow current policy Alexfusco5 20:01, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
So activ indeed, I'm impressed... The decision discussed being mostly to wait for others to take a decision. Blinking Spirit (talk) 20:51, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
There are many other requests above and in recent archives see WJBscribe's comments and there is more discuusion here Alexfusco5 22:08, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
So no chance to get this? Ok, then I strike this request and merge the rest - I see no point in waiting for something which obviously won't happen, and it's not nice towards the hypothetical bureaucrat who tries to perform it when I have already merged, so that the move won't be possible...  :/ Sorry for the impossible request. \Mike(z) 16:39, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Not done - not allowed by current policy, withdrawn. WjBscribe 17:46, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Jcb temp → Jcb

Note:
Not done - target's edits are sufficiently significant that policy does not allow them to renamed at present. WjBscribe 17:49, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Humberto, Mex. → Humberto

I'd like to change my username to use unified login, however I need to usurp this account. The account Humberto has 6 edits only. I'm a sysop at es:wiki. Thank you so much. Humberto, Mex. (talk) 23:07, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Note:

Thank you Alex. I made a mistake. Sorry --Humberto, Mex. (talk) 00:26, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

No Problem Alexfusco5
Not done - the first edit by this account is fairly significant. I don't think present policy allows it to be renamed. I also note that the target account was not notified (either on its talkpage or by email) of this request. WjBscribe 18:04, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Noumenon is my registered Freenode IRC nick name as well as being my username in several other wikipedias (such as German, French etc.) and wikiprojects (such as tr.wiktionary) and Commons. Hence I'd like to use Noumenon here too, which will also allow me to use my global account here... Thanks in advance. - Kubra (talk) 21:47, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia. Due to licensing concerns, this may be a barrier to usurpation. The account has two edits from 2004 and uploaded an image that was later deleted --Chris 10:00, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Not done - as this edit is significant, current local policy does not allow this account to be renamed. WjBscribe 19:38, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Godevening I have a ask abut username, and change it to a globale name. I have the username svenboatbuilder in Sweden from February 2006, and like to change to only the name boatbuilder what I reedy done a account in Sweden. Hello! My main language is "zh" and I wish to use zh:Lfox for SUL. I discover that en:Lfox's latest contribution is at "17:09, 29 September 2006", longer than an entire year. Althougt English is not my strength, I hope you can consider my application. Thanks!

Not done, you really don't have any more claim to this name, you have 16 total edits on zh. Andre (talk) 03:12, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Understand,I give up this apply. I just want to know why you mention my total edits on zh. Is there any standard or rule that decide whether some apply like this will be agree or not? I didn't see anything so I make this wrong apply. I am really sorry for disturbance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lfox-en (talkcontribs) 07:43, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
It's not a big deal. There are no actual policies about this, but the en user Lfox has some GFDL edits, and you don't have that many more. Andre (talk) 05:10, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Chrisportelli2 → Chrisportelli

I want that all my accounts on the multilingual Wikipedia will be the same. I own both "Chrisportelli" and "Chrisportelli2" on the English Wikipedia. "Chrisportelli" is the account I created first but I wasn't able to make edist when I was logged in under this account. Now, under "Chrisportelli2" I can do so.

Not done, your request really doesn't make sense to me. Log in with the account if you own it. Andre (talk) 05:12, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
oh ok then... but I dont know how come I can#t make edits with the "Chrisportelli" account. Everytime I press 'edit this page' (ex. to create my user page), opens a pop-up box which tells me to open or save 'index.htm'.. I don't know either if this is the right place to discuss... in that case sorry and thanks Chrisportelli2 (talk) 07:49, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

CURRENT_NAME → REQUESTED_NAME

Hello,

I have tried to set up an account at home to enable me to Podcast lectures at university which I missed due to a back problem. When I log in at uni under the username JLDavies, and am told that a username JlDavies exists, I am unsure whether this was just a mistake of mine, (where I often find that for some reason I tend to be a bit soft on the shift key for capital letters)/ or whether I am already logged on with that as a mistake. I need to be set up to Podcast for the first time in 2 days time! My new username, if it turns out to be another Davies individual, will be JulesLDavies, same password, to prevent complication.....after a nasty computer virus at home left me with so many password changes to be totally computer secure (sorted out prior to attempt to Podcast - don't worry!)that I even forget which password sorts which aspect of my home sytem myself at times! My home system is totally rebuilt/better anti-virus/password now-prior to entry to any new webpage/finally happy! Problem was trojan Horse backdoor something (I'm sure you guys know about how nasty they can be!-a warning for others if you don't!)
My Email is the uni one , which is [email protected]. They have a far more sophisticated sytem with anti-virus ware than I as a student can afford at home. Nonetheless , once I have an account, and can cut and paste the Podcast link, if I can acces it at home, I have written down both usernames, whichever you choose to register me under. If it is more secure to send me a new password/username under the circumstances, please include a change password link, so that I can do so to make it one that I will remember!
                                         Regards
                                          JLDavies

Not done. Bureaucrats can only rename users on their own projects - you will need to make requests to local bureaucrats on each of those projects. The interwiki links from Wikipedia:Changing username should point you to the right place and I think you'll find all of those have bureaucrats who understand english. WJBscribe (talk) 00:37, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

None (SUL request) → Sokai

I wanna make a SUL account for the user "sokai". I "own" (have created) this account for de.wikipedia.org and meta.wikimedia.org projects. Because it already exists at en.wikipedia.org I can't create the wanted SUL account. So I contacted Sokai at her/his talk page but I don't think s/he will answer my request because of her/his inactivity since 2006. (My "main" account is http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Sokai .) Thanks a lot!

Not done - the "home wiki" for this global account is enwiki, meaning that it is the enwiki user who currently holds the rights to use the name globally. WJBscribe (talk) 22:04, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Thank you WJBscribe! I understand the reason. But please tell me how it's possible for me to contact a user who is "inactive" since 2006 and hasn't enabled the e-mail notification? If there is no possibility for me, so my request/wish will never be fulfilled1? *bad* :( Thanks again! --sokai 05:51, 17 October 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.188.85.29 (talk)
If I understand how the software works, the enwiki user has priority because they have more edits here than you do on dewiki. When you have more edits, you will be able to unify your login and create a global account - you can still create a global account without operating all accounts by that name if you have the "home wiki" account. I don't know if you will eventually be able to have this name on enwiki - at the moment our policy doesn't allow that but this may change in future. WJBscribe (talk) 03:48, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Gopiwada, located in Bhandara Tehsil of Bhandara District Maharashtra (India), is a very unique small village. It has a population of approximately 2500. It has produced remarkable persons including two Ph.D.s, several masters and bachelors. People of Gopiwada dream of well being and prosperity of every member of this village, and believe: (1) that if you dream hard, you will see it's not a dream, it's a reality; (2) that if you want to achieve your dreams, there will be obstacles, but 99% of the time, you can work around the obstacles, and see your dreams transforming into reality; (3) in not expressing frustration, but working on same to find a way out; (4) in being not frustrated, but motivated, as always we had been; (5) in seeing dreams and turning them into reality; (6) in being truthful to ourselves; and (7) in motivation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shende98 (talkcontribs) 18:27, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
