[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 16:30, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Pages using Timeline to Category:Pages using the EasyTimeline extension
- Nominator's rationale: By analogy with Category:Pages using the Graph extension and Category:Pages using the Kartographer extension, especially since it's unclear what "Timeline" means without context. Note: To implement this proposal, edit MediaWiki:Timeline-tracking-category * Pppery * it has begun... 18:12, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Likely WP:SMALLCAT – SD0001 (talk) 17:06, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Keep - part of Category:Songs by artist. Oculi (talk) 20:48, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Keep, with proviso. It appears that the artist is ASCA, but the article name is Asuka Ōkura, so perhaps the article name should be agreed first, rather than the category? IOW, Keep but what name? --Richhoncho (talk) 22:41, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- withdraw I didn't see the clause in WP:SMALLCAT that said subcats of Category:Works by creator are exempt. – SD0001 (talk) 11:09, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 19:04, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Too specific. For Chilean television shows, no by-decade by-genre categorisation exists for other decades. See for example Category:2010s Chilean television series – SD0001 (talk) 17:01, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 19:03, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: WP:NONDEFINING, we don't categorize survivors by battle. Naturally, nearly all battles have some survivors from both sides. Brandmeistertalk 11:36, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- We do have Category:Alamo survivors, but those folks are mostly notable for being survivors of that battle. Not sure of the folks here categorized. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 05:44, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- Delete per nom, the Zulu articles are already in Category:People of the Anglo-Zulu War; the British articles are already in Category:British Army personnel of the Anglo-Zulu War. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:03, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Category:Israel, Palestine, and the United Nations
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: keep; rename to Category:Israeli–Palestinian conflict and the United Nations. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:52, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: The category is a parent for both category:Israel and the United Nations and category:Palestine and the United Nations, for which we also have parallel articles Israel and the United Nations and Palestine and the United Nations, while Israel, Palestine and the United Nations is just a list page; all relevant pages already largely categorized under category:Israel and the United Nations or category:Palestine and the United Nations or both. It seems a simple doublicity case, as we do not have another example of such parenting category (no category:Cyprus, Turkey and the United Nations for instance). GreyShark (dibra) 11:24, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Keep as a special case that is very relevant under the circumstances of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Certainly do not plainly delete, if not kept the category should be merged to its three parent categories. It may be renamed to Category:Israeli–Palestinian conflict and the United Nations or vice versa. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:09, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Delete there are multiple aspects to every international conflict (hot or cold) to create categories for each is overkill. Category:Spain, Portugal, and the Papacy; Category:England, Spain, and the Papacy, Category:England, Ireland, and the United States, Category:Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia, etc. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 05:48, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- Rename and purge - This has a lot of articles on UN resolutions and the like, which do not appear to be elsewhere in the tree. Category:United nations actions concerning Israeli–Palestinian conflict might fit the bill. The articles concerning individual UN representatives, De Bunsen Committee, and a few more that are not related to actions of UNO corporately or its agencies need to be purged, sometimes into the wider Category:Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Despite the apparent overlap with the two national categories, there is plenty here to make a worthwhile category. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:28, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
- Keep Almost all UN resolutions relating to Israel also relate to Palestine, and vice versa. It's better to have one category for all these articles, than require double categories every time. Onceinawhile (talk) 21:59, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Israeli–Palestinian conflict and the United Nations or similar. An alternate name could use Israeli-Arab conflict, which is wider. While a triple relation is not a good basis for a category, the dual relation between the UN and a specific conflict has potential. This principle may also be extended to other international conflicts that have been the focus of sufficient UN activity to justify a category, e.g. perhaps the Indo-Pakistani conflict or the Yugoslav Wars. Place Clichy (talk) 14:08, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- Alt Rename to Category:Israeli–Palestinian conflict and the United Nations or similar. There is a topic here that readers are likely to want to navigate through but the current name is unclear. RevelationDirect (talk) 21:56, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Rename Timrollpickering (talk) 10:44, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:West Coast Range (Tasmania) to Category:West Coast Range
- Nominator's rationale: The main article is at West Coast Range. There is no other usage in Wikipedia that I am aware of. There is no West Coast Range (disambiguation). Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:20, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- creators limp response there are west coasts in the US and New Zealand that do have very similar sounding naming of things on their coasts, and at the time of creation it seemed de riguer to create qualifiers. so it goes. JarrahTree 03:29, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- As a New Zealander, I'd say that "West Coast Range" wouldn't be a standard way of talking about the South Island's ranges - and there certainly isn't one range called the West Coast Range. So no dab is needed on our part. Grutness...wha? 03:39, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Rename since the disambiguation does not seem to be necessary. bibliomaniac15 05:47, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Split Timrollpickering (talk) 13:45, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Two things that are only semi-related. There is a decent amount of character articles now so that should not be a problem. (Oinkers42) (talk) 00:55, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Split Category for two unrelated types of subjects. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 03:12, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

- Category:2019 in Mogadishu to Category:2010s in Mogadishu and Category:2019 in Somalia
- Nominator's rationale: per WP:SMALLCAT. Category:2010s in Mogadishu subcats contains only 19 articles in all. Readers are better served by keeping them together in one category, rather than chopping them up into fragments.
- Most cities just have by-decade categories. Compare the large number of city categories in the by-continent sub-categories of Category:Decades by city with the sparse set in Category:Years by city.
- Per WP:SMALLCAT, small categories are a nuisance to navigate. Chronology categories are most useful when part of an established series. So we don't split up decade categories unless we have enough articles in the set to make the by-year categories more of a meal than a crumb. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:51, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: per WP:SMALLCAT. These 70 by-year categories for the Canadian city of Montreal contain only 189 articles in total, i.e. an average of 2.7 pages per category. Only 11 of them has more than 4 pages, and there is no clustering in recent years: only 4 of the 21 year-in-21st-century categories exceeds 4 pages.
