- The result of the discussion was: Delete. Timrollpickering (Talk) 10:57, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Category for music videos styled to look like film trailers. Seems overly specific and not likely to have many members. Trivialist (talk) 22:38, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

- delete @Ben5218: next time, it is unnecessary to post empty category here, just tagging CSD C1 and run 7-day period to let an admin delete Hhkohh (talk) 17:01, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
- My bad, didn't know about that. It was just bothering me and I thought that I should add it here. Ben5218 (talk) 18:11, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:History of Kamarupa to Category:Kamarupa (former kingdom)
- Nominator's rationale: rename, adding a disambiguator in order to differentiate more clearly from the parent Category:History of the Kamrup region. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:02, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

Category:UU staff
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: Rename as proposed; revisit if necessary. There's no consensus to delete and multiple suggestions for alternate names but clear consensus to get the university name in full in there so we can sort that one out now. Timrollpickering (Talk) 14:21, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:UU staff to Category:Wikipedian staff of Upsala University
- Nominator's rationale: The current title misleadingly implies that this is a category for encyclopedic content, which is presumably what led to it being wrogly parented by @Rathfelder in Category:Uppsala University people. (Now fixed[1])
- It is actually a category for editors who are staff of Uppsala University, populated via {{Profile UU}}.
- I have not found any similar categories for staff of a particular university, so I'm not aware of any naming convention to follow, other than that the title should include the word "Wikipedian". BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:14, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
- as BrownHairedGirl implies, I know nothing about it. I think I found it in the list of Wanted Categories. I'm quite happy with the proposal.Rathfelder (talk) 19:19, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

- I thought you were a real live person who added colour to the world ... but now you seem to be telling me that you are just a character in a Pratchett novel. How can I cope with this sad news? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:52, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
- Not too sure how I got here, but I'm dissappointed -Roxy, the dog. wooF 19:26, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support my first guess was that this contained Category:Unitarian Universalist clergy. power~enwiki (π, ν) 02:45, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
- Delete - Violates WP:USERCAT as not supporting collaboration. We recently deleted a category for employees of Google, I see no reason to retain a category for employees of a particular university. VegaDark (talk) 02:51, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- Question - Is the category for Uppsala University staff or students? If staff, then VegaDark correctly noted that we do not categorize by employer, so we should delete the category. If students, then we should rename to Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Uppsala University (subcategory of Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Sweden). -- Black Falcon (talk) 23:24, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support renaming I completely agree with Power~enwiki. I assumed UU meant Unitarian Universalist. As for deletion: looking at the members of the category, it quickly became clear that this was a consciously organized group. Here is the central page: m:Wikimedia Sverige and Higher Education/Uppsala University. It looks like the university requires its PhD students to write for Wikipedia, and a random check reveals that most of the users in this category are PhD students. As such, I'm strongly against deletion, since we do not want to alienate a group like that. In fact, it's pretty obvious to me how this category would facilitate collaboration. Their central template says that "this user is associated with Uppsala University", so maybe we can call it Category:Wikipedians associated with Uppsala University, inclusive of both students and staff (PhD students are likely both anyway), and everyone will be happy. Kevinsam2 (talk) 13:36, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
- These users should list themselves on a project page. Category:Wikiproject Upsala University participants would be appropriate, for instance. We already have an "Alma mater" category system and have deleted previous "Wikipedians by employer" categories. If we suddenly allowed them or started a new category system we would need to delineate the criteria so we can come up with a new naming convention and better be able to determine appropriate vs. inappropriate employer categories (What's to stop someone creating a category for employees at their local corner store without criteria for creation set?). Also a category specifically for employees or students excludes people who are not associated with the university but nonetheless wish to collaborate on that topic, bringing me back to suggesting the Wikiproject. VegaDark (talk) 19:15, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
- I'd support any renaming that keeps the group. However, WikiProject Uppsala University makes it sound like it's a project dedicated to improving coverage of Uppsala University. That's not what it is. I'll state for the record that yes, this is presently an employer category, and I see zero problems with that. Without trying to decide every possible case, a university would be a textbook example of an "appropriate employer". Having said that, it sounds like we can resolve this if we make a group title that makes it clear anyone can join. Maybe Category:Wikipedians supporting the article writing project based at Uppsala University? Or Category:WikiProject based at Uppsala University for Improving Coverage of Academic Subjects participants? Or Category:Wikipedians associated with the Uppsala University article-writing project, with a note in the category that anyone may "associate"? Kevinsam2 (talk) 13:56, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- Is there a page anywhere on Wikipedia detailing what this article writing project is? Where do these users collaborate? The category should match the project name. I could support a rename to something like Category:Wikipedian participants in the Uppsala University article writing project. This would solve my major issues of categorizing by employer as well as excluding people who are not associated with the university from helping. VegaDark (talk) 19:15, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
- Don't delete, this is clearly a collaboration category for the sake of improving Wikipedia. On top of that, rather than a very lengthy category name I would prefer a concise name (like nominator's proposal) with a further explanation of the purpose of the category on the category page. - The result of the discussion was: Merge. Timrollpickering (Talk) 11:00, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Religion in Almaty to Category:Religion in Kazakhstan and Category:Almaty

- Propose merging Category:Religion in Besançon to Category:Religion in France and Category:Besançon

- Nominator's rationale: upmerge per WP:SMALLCAT, all the above categories contain one subcategory (usually a places of worship subcategory) and 0, 1 or 2 articles. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:48, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: keep. -- Black Falcon (talk) 23:25, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:History of the Rus' people to Category:Rus' people
- Nominator's rationale: overcomplicating redundancy. "History of" implied in destination category. Chicbyaccident (talk) 02:48, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
- Weak oppose, currently all content about the topic are in Category:History of the Rus' people while its siblings only contain biographies. After the proposed merge Category:Rus' people will consist of a mix of subcategories of topics with subcategories containing biographies. Not sure if that will improve the category structure. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:41, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per Marcocapelle. Instead, I'd consider merging some of the sibling categories; I'm not sure we need individual and underpopulated subcategories for women, princes, monks, and people by century. Reyk YO! 08:58, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
