In ranking the Top 100 Marquette players of all time, I had to flash back to my freshman Spring semester. I thought I’d gotten pretty dominant on the rec center court. At the same time I was critical of our varsity team, which had struggled that season living in the shadow of the National Championship seven years earlier. My illusions of grandeur were quickly destroyed when five of the varsity players - Mandy Johnson, Robert Hall, Herb Harrison, Willie Hines and Tom Copa – called “next” game and beat us 16-0 by ones in about 4 minutes. I’m not sure we completed a pass – and I know we didn’t get a shot off. Of those five only Tom makes my Top 100, but my point is that even the other 500-plus former Marquette players like Mandy, Robert, Herb and Willie are GREAT. The top 100 are truly significant in the history of our great University. The following are the players I rank as the 76th through 100th “greatest” players in Marquette history. I awarded points for greatness in three categories that are explained below, represented by the three numbers that add up to the underlined “total greatness points.” The first figure is for great statistics, the 2nd is for their pro career or draft, and the third is a subjective measure of their impact on the Marquette program. These three categories are explained below – but first, the list: 76. Dave Delsman (1973, 74, 75) 1 0 11 = 12 total greatness points. Notes: guard off bench for 1974 National Runners-up 77. Robert Byrd (1977, 78, 79, 80) 1 3 8 = 12 total greatness points. Notes: Drafted by Chicago in 7th round, backup on National champs freshman year 78. Lazar Hayward (2007) 6 0 5 = 11 total greatness points. Notes: 11.6 ppg/4.8 rpg has us off to a great start in 2007-08 – obviously current players ultimate rankings will go up or down based on if this year’s No. 10 ranked squad makes a run in the tournament 79. Brad Luchini (1966, 67, 68) 4 1 6 = 11 total greatness points. Notes: Drafted in 11th round by Milwaukee as hometown favorite, 7th in school history FT percentage at 81.1%. 80. Ernie Kukla (1933, 34, 35) 4 0 6 = 10 total greatness points. Notes: 3 sport start in 1930s, and center on the 1934 team that beat 5 of 6 Big Ten teams and finished 14-3 81. Bill Neary (1973, 75, 76, 77) 3 0 7 = 10 total greatness points. Notes: Marquette's 1977 National champ reserve 82. Terry Sanders (2001, 02, 03, 04) 2 0 8 = 10 total greatness points. Notes: backed up Wade for Final Four team in 2003 – gets credit for being his opponent in practices for two years 83. Jim Dudley (1977, 78, 79) 1 0 9 = 10 total greatness points. Notes: Marquette's 1977 National champ reserve 84. Dwayne Johnson (1982, 83, 84) 6 0 3 = 9 total greatness points. Notes: Over 1,000 points at Marquette 85. David Cubillan (2006, 07) 4 0 5 = 9 total greatness points. Notes: loved him as a freshman last year for incredible defensive pressure, and averaging 9.6 ppg out of the gates this year 86. Ed Daniels (1973, 74) 3 0 6 = 9 total greatness points. Notes: guard backing Washington and Walton on NCAA runners-up 87. Brian Nyenhuis (1981, 82) 3 3 2 = 8 total greatness points. Notes: Drafted by Detroit in 7th round, 6-foot-10 center transferred from UWM for last two years 88. Odell Ball (1978, 79) 3 3 2 = 8 total greatness points. Notes: Drafted by Denver in 6th round 89. Walter Downing (1985, 86) 3 3 2 = 8 total greatness points. Notes: Drafted by Los Angeles in 6th round 90. Jack Nagle (1939, 40) 1 0 7 = 8 total greatness points. Notes: Played two years, then coached Marquette to its first Elite 8 in 1955, before eventually leaving to run the CBA and scout for NBA teams 91. William Gates (1992, 93, 95) 0 0 8 = 8 total greatness points. Notes: Injured knee kept him from his promising career, but “Hoop Dreams” is still my favorite movie ever and the testimony it gave to how great the Marquette experience is couldn't have had a better advertisement 92. Chris Grimm (2003, 04, 05, 06) 0 2 6 = 8 total greatness points. Notes: NCAA Final Four 2003 team, played some off the bench as 6-10 center, and played overseas in pros 93. Vic Lazzaretti (1983, 84) 5 0 2 = 7 total greatness points. Notes: This 6-foot-8 center forward was an animal cutting to the basket and fighting inside, with 12 ppg/10 rpg his senior year on 70% FG shooting 94. Odartey Blankson (2001, 02) 5 0 2 = 7 total greatness points. Notes: 6-7 forward had two strong years and could have ranked very high if he had not transferred to UNLV and missed Final 4 run 95. Greg Clausen (1998, 1999, 2000, 01) 3 0 4 = 7 total greatness points. Notes: 6-11 Center played a bit, and later in CBA 96. John Cliff (1997, 98, 99, 2000) 3 0 4 = 7 total greatness points. Notes: 3-point shooter off bench, with 102 of 308 career mark from beyond the arc 97. Raymond Eckstein (1944, 45) 2 0 5 = 7 total greatness points. Notes: I couldn't find stats from the mid-1940s, but any former Marquette player who is successful enough to donate $51 million to the school gets good credit for his impact on the school 98. Abel Joseph (1994, 95, 97, 98) 0 0 7 = 7 total greatness points. Notes: 6-9 forward off bench most games and Sweet 16 team as freshman 99. Dave Erickson (1961, 62, 63) 0 4 3 = 7 total greatness points. Notes: Drafted by Detroit in 4th round 100. Nick Williams (2008) 0 0 6 = 6 total greatness points. Notes: I live in Alabama so I'm biased toward Leflore High School's 6-foot-4 prep guard Nick Williams (Mobile, AL), who is coming to MU next year and was just named the 1st player of the week by the Press-Register for averaging over 27 ppg in 3 games including a double-double. The next great Golden Eagle I hope! Gets a bonus for coming to MU after leading Bama to a state title, and being on track for another title after a 120-22 win to improve to 6-0 this year. If a player ranked among the greatest in one of the three areas mentioned above, I assigned them between 1 and 15 points in that category. Then I added all three rankings to get a total number of “greatness points” to determine this top 100. 1. STATISTICAL CATEGORY. The first number is the “statistical” number that represents the points, rebounds, steals, blocked shots and assists the player put up at Marquette. If I had based these rankings purely on the numbers, 3-year stars Don Kojis and George Thompson would rank at the top of the list, followed closely by 4-year stars like Jim McIlvaine and Tony Smith. This system may be the simplest – a center who scores 15 points and grabs 8 rebounds a game, is going to rank ahead of a center who averages 10 points and 4 rebounds over the same number of games. There are certainly many great, steady performers who would have made this top 100 if I had based this purely on stats, but I weighted two other categories as equally important. 2. DOMINANT PLAYER CATEGORY. The second number measures how “dominant” a player proved to be. Based on this category, the guys who dominated in the NBA, led by Dwayne Wade, Maurice Lucas and Doc Rivers, would rank at the top, followed by the other 27 Marquette players who went on to play in the NBA, and then the players who were drafted but didn’t make their NBA team, and those who played in Europe or the CBA. If the Detroit Pistons decided Dave Erickson looked good enough at Marquette to be drafted in the 4th round, then he obviously had some real ability to dominate – so he makes the list at No. 99. 3. POSITIVE IMPACT CATEGORY. The third number represents how much “positive impact” the player had on Marquette’s program. Some starters from weaker Marquette teams are not in the Top 100 even though they have better stats than Terry Sanders and Ed Daniels. However, if those starters would have been reserves as well behind the backcourts of Wade-Diener (2003) and Washington-Walton (1974). Sanders and Daniels played key roles on those Final Four teams, drilling these great guards day after day in practice and filling in when they needed rests or got in foul trouble. Based on this third criteria, Bo Ellis is clearly the greatest player in Marquette history. Only Bo was a star on the 1974 National runner-up as a freshman, AND a star as a senior on the 1977 National Championship team. He was the most important player in Marquette history. After that, I give credit to players who helped get teams to the Final Four (2003), Elite 8 (8 teams), NIT title (1970), then Sweet 16 (1979, 1994). Four other players make the list for having a positive impact either BEFORE or AFTER they were done playing. I gave points to Raymond Eckstein for what he did 60 years AFTER playing for Marquette - contributing $51 million to the school last year. Jack Nagle gets credit for coming back after his playing days to coach Marquette to its first Elite 8, and then serving as President of the CBA to put Marquette in the middle of the basketball universe. On the other hand, 6-foot-4 prep star Nick Williams gets credit for his impact BEFORE playing his first game at Marquette. Nick Williams may have opened a Southern recruiting pipeline for Tom Crean by signing with Marquette after winning the Alabama state title as a junior last year. And then there is William Gates … The greatest subjective boost the program has gotten beyond championships is from Gates. How do you measure the impact of the movie “Hoop Dreams” against wins and losses? Early in the movie – which I believe is the greatest documentary ever in addition to being my favorite movie of all time – we see Gates as a prep sophomore leading his team to the Illinois Final Four. When watching Gates exploding down the court, then defying gravity and twirling 360-degrees in the air to softly bank a shot off the glass, we would all assume he would end up piling up his “greatness points” for big numbers for his future statistics at Marquette and in the NBA. And then Hoop Dreams becomes a tragedy. A knee injury and other personal developments keep Gates from his greatness on the courts at Marquette and the NBA. However, how much did it help the program for kids to watch Coach Kevin O’Neill refuse to give up on Gates, as he gives his parents straight talk in their inner city home in Chicago? How much did it say to potential Marquette recruits who are so often discarded by programs to watch how O’Neill and Marquette took care of Gates, kept him on scholarship even while going to the Sweet 16 with him unable to play in 1994? Our friends at that other Catholic school with the gold helmets can cry when Rudy gets on the field to tackle the Georgia Tech quarterback in his last game. The best cry I get when watching a movie is when Gates limps onto the prep school gym to practice while his voice over says, “All my life, everyone has told me not to forget them when I make the NBA. Sometimes I want to say, ‘Don’t YOU forget me if I don’t.” Seeing him in the Marquette gold at the end of the movie is an ultimate moment of triumph. William Gates may have never realized his dream of making the NBA, but his place in history will be immortalized in Hoop Dreams long after most NBA stars are forgotten, and for that he belongs on the list of the greatest Marquette players of all time. John Pudner, Journalism ’88, was Editorial Editor and then News Editor for the Marquette Tribune. He was named top sports news writer in Virginia in 1991 while working for the Charlottesville Observer and wrote a weekly column on his rankings of baseball pitchers for the New York Post before leaving journalism for a career in politics and government affairs.

Joe Gomez is an American professional wrestler who competes in Southeastern independent promotions including Florida Championship Wrestling, [1] Maximum Pro Wrestling [2] and the National Wrestling Alliance. Although best known for his time in World Championship Wrestling during the late 1990s, he also has had successful stints in international promotions including New Japan Pro Wrestling and the World Wrestling Council. Early career[edit]Gomez began wrestling in Southeastern regional promotions during the late 1980s and, while in Championship Wrestling from Florida, he and Mike Graham defeated Kendall Windham & Robert Fuller for the NWA Florida Tag Team Championship in Tampa, Florida on May 8, 1990. [3] Following Graham's retirement later that year, he would be replaced by Hurricane Walker although they would soon loose the titles to Sgt. Rock & Mark Starr on September 13, 1990. Later that month, he began wrestling in World Championship Wrestling as Allen Iron Eagle substituting for Terry Taylor at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois on September 30. Teaming with Lou Perez against The Freebirds on NWA Power Hour several days later, he would also face The Iron Sheik, Buddy Landell, Stan Hansen, [4] Mike Rotunda [5] and, in a tag team match with Tim Horner, lost to the Master Blasters (Steel & Iron) at the UIC Pavilion on November 30, 1990. [6] The following year, he would also face Minotaur, Moondog Rex and, in an 8-man tag team match with Steve Armstrong, Tracy Smothers and Tim Horner, defeated WCW World Heavyweight Champion "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, WCW World Television Champion Arn Anderson, Barry Windham & Sid Vicious at the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta, Georgia on January 14, 1991. Appearing on WCW Power Hour, he and Greg Sawyer lost to Motor City Madman & Big Cat when Gomez was pinned by the Motor City Madman on January 21. [7] In his last appearance in the promotion, he teamed with "Wildfire" Tommy Rich loosing to The Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Jimmy Garvin) at Clash of the Champions XIV on Janaury 30, 1991. [8] World Championship Wrestling[edit]After several years in various independent promotions in Florida, Gomez made his debut in World Championship Wrestling in early 1996 later facing V.K. Wallstreet at the first annual Ilio DiPaolo Memorial show at the War Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, New York on June 7. He would appear in a backstage segment during a live interview on Monday Night Nitro with Gene Okerlund, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Debra McMichael. After Debra McMichael was heard screaming after entering the locker room of the Four Horsemen, Gomez attempted to help and was ambushed by Arn Anderson and Ric Flair who put Gomez in a figure-four leglock. [9] He would make one of his first television appearances several weeks later, defeating Disco Inferno on Monday Night Nitro on June 17. The following month, he faced the Four Horsemen (Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Chris Benoit and Steve McMichael) in an 8-man tag team match with The Renegade and the Rock and Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) on Monday Night Nitro on July 1. Several days later, he would loose to Steve McMichael at Bash at the Beach '96 in Daytona Beach, Florida on July 7. He would later engage in a short-lived feud with the Dungeon of Doom teaming with Alex Wright and Jim Powers in a 6-man tag team match to defeat The Leprechaun, Hugh Morrus and The Taskmaster via disqualification on Monday Night Nitro on July 22, 1996. [10] At Hogg Wild '96 the next month, he would again face the Dungeon of Doom loosing a 6-man tag team match with Jim Powers and Mark Starr to Kevin Sullivan and the Faces of Fear (Meng & The Barbarian). Later that year, he would also try his luck in the newly created Cruiserweight Division loosing to Juventud Guerrera at Monday Night Nitro on September 2, 1996. On November 24 in Norfolk, Virginia, he participated in the first ever 3-ring 60-man battle royal at World War 3 and was eliminated by The Giant. [11] In December, he began teaming regularly with The Renegade and, appearing on Monday Night Nitro during the next several weeks facing the Amazing French Canadians [12] and High Voltage, [13] he and The Renegade would also appear on WCW Saturday Night where they lost to Jim Powers & Bobby Walker on January 11, 1997. After loosing to Harlem Heat at Clash of the Champions XXXIV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 21, [14] he and The Renegade split up for a time as Gomez would appear in dark matches facing Kevin Sullivan and Lasertron on Monday Night Nitro during the next few weeks. Loosing to Hugh Morris in a dark match at SuperBrawl VII on February 23, he would again loose to him the following night on Monday Night Nitro. [15] By early March, he and The Renegade had begun teaming again as they defeated Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker & Sgt. Craig Pittman on WCW Pro after Gomez pinned Buddy Lee Parker. In a rematch against Harlem Heat on March 15, they were disqualified when Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge & Rocco Rock) attacked Harlem Heat during the match. During the next two days, they would also loose matches to Jim Powers & Bobby Walker on WCW Pro and Konnan & Hugh Morrus on Monday Night Nitro.[16] After Gomez was pinned by Hugh Morris, he and The Renegade began arguing after the match. Presumably splitting up shortly after, Gomez appeared in a singles match two days later defeating Mark Starr in a dark match on WCW Saturday Night and, on Monday Night Nitro days later, he was attacked by his former tag team partner while attempting to come to the defense of Chris Jericho who was being attacked by "Lord" Steven Regal after loosing to Jericho. [17] On April 14, he would also team with Ice Train to defeat The Extremists (Ace Darling & Devon Storm) with their valet Kimona Wanalaya in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Monday Night Nitro. Feuding with The Renegade over the next few weeks, he was attacked by The Renegade after he had submitted to the "Tongan Death Grip" following a match against Meng during Monday Night Nitro on May 31. However, The Renegade's interference backfired as he was put in the submission hold by Meng as well. He later defeated Mr. JL on WCW Pro, however he would loose matches to Buff Bagwell, Konnan, Dave Taylor and WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett [18] during the next two months. [19] Seen less frequently over the next two years, in one of his last appearances he defeated Bobby Eaton on WCW Saturday Night on March 13, 1999. [20] Recent years[edit]In 2000, he left WCW to return to NWA Florida then under promoter Howard Brody defeating Al Green in Tampa on December 12. Later that month, he would also appear at a fundraising event for the International Wrestling Federation teaming with Pat Tanaka against The Powers of Pain (The Warlord & The Barbarian at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Davie, Florida. [21] He has remained semi-active in the Southeastern independent circuit competing in Florida Championship Wrestling and Maximum Pro Wrestling as well as NWA Florida. An intellectual prodigy and a gifted artist, Keerthi dedicated his entire adult life, from the age of 16, to building the ICFI. At just 19, he assumed the leadership of the RCL at its founding in 1968, an expression of his thorough assimilation of the theoretical foundations of Marxism. His lifelong struggle for Trotskyism has immense importance for the present generation of young people who are turning to revolutionary politics. Keerthi entered political life amid the immense difficulties created by the betrayal of the two leading Trotskyist parties—the reunification of the Socialist Workers Party in the United States with opportunist United Secretariat in 1963 and the entry of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) into a bourgeois government led by the Sri Lankan Freedom Party in Sri Lanka in 1964. In seeking to clarify these great betrayals, Keerthi stood firmly against the widespread infatuation with bourgeois nationalist movements and figures such as Mao Tse Tung, Ho Chi Minh and Che Guevara. Basing himself on Trotsky’s Theory of Permanent Revolution, Keerthi insisted that the working class remained the sole consistently revolutionary force in society and steadfastly fought for its independence from the bourgeoisie and all of its political agencies. The transformation of China, Vietnam and Cuba into cheap labour platforms for international finance capital underscores Keerthi’s farsightedness. His life and work have an immediate relevance to workers and youth, not only in Sri Lanka, but throughout Asia and internationally. He works mainly on industrial economics, competition policy, auction theory, and climate change economics and policy. His 1985 papers (with Jeremy Bulow and John Geanakoplos)^1 developed the concept - and invented the terminology - of "strategic complements" that is now commonly used in game theory, industrial organization and elsewhere.^2 His PhD thesis, and independent work by Carl Christian von Weizsacker, began the study of consumer switching costs.^3 Many of his papers apply ideas from auction theory to other economic contexts, including finance and political economy.^4 He has also written about the practical design of auctions (including his book Auctions: Theory and Practice).^5 He succeeded Nobel prizewinner James Mirrlees as Edgeworth Professor in 1995. He was principal auction-theorist designing the UK '3G' mobile-phone license auction that raised £22½ billion and was far more successful than several parallel exercises on the European continent; it has been argued that the UK Treasury therefore owes £15 billion or more to him and Ken Binmore who led the auction team.^6 In 2002 he advised the UK government on the world's first auction for greenhouse gas emissions reductions working with Nobel prizewinner Eric Maskin.^7 He advised the US Federal Trade Commission 1999-2001,^8 was a Member of the UK Competition Commission from 2001-5, and remains on its Panel of Economic Advisors.^9 He participated in the meeting that drafted the Potsdam Memorandum to the 2007 UN Climate Change Conference in Bali.^10 External website http://www.paulklemperer.org

Lister was able-bodied until the age of 15. She studied biochemistry at Jesus College, Oxford between 1991 and 1995, having lost the use of her legs by then. She started a PhD at the University of Kent in 1996 but her condition deteriorated. She lost the use of her arms in 1999 and was unable to finish her doctorate (but has since been awarded an honorary doctorate by the university). She was introduced to sailing in 2003, which she says gave her life "new meaning and purpose". On 23 August 2005, Lister was the first quadriplegic to sail solo across the English Channel (in 6 hours and 13 minutes). On 24 July 2007, she became the first female quadriplegic to sail solo around the Isle of Wight (in 11 hours 4 minutes). She won the Sunday Times Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration in 2005. She plans to sail solo around Britain in 2008.

As long as I can remember I have been fascinated by the art of music and rhythm, but didn't pick up the guitar before the age about 14! From the first time I attended a rock concert at the local school-club and heard the sound of a fuzzy guitar i totally got bitten and knew that I just had to play in a band. From the age about 14-17 I was inspired by bands like Dio, Metallica, King Diamond and discovered stuff like Deep Purple, Yes, Pink Floyd and Van Halen a little later on. Especially Van Halen was a great inspiring element for me during the time I developed my playing style and my musical expression. My first real band was Cry Free that later on turned into Cabo Wabo. First we only did self written material but turned into a kick-ass coverband that played a lot of different songs of bands like Van Halen, Deep Purple, and Whitesnake(Beer drinking music:). Besides, I have also played in several other band projects and also as a studio musician. Together with Steinar and Ronny of PM we did a Toto coverband project for some time as well. As of now,im really happy playing in Pagan’s Mind and Jorn, its two different kind of musical kicks(expressions) in these bands and I really need and enjoy them both. As im writing this we’re having our last period recording Pagans Mind third album that will be called “Enigmatic Calling”, this album will be released in april 05 on Limb Music and will be followed up with a tour and festivals after that. Also there will be done a new Jorn album this year that will be rerelased late 05, Jorn Lande and I have allready written a lot of the songs for this album, some coversongs and also some older Jorn songs will probably be re-recorded for this occation, if this comes out as one or two albums are yet to see. An last but not least: Thanks so much to the fans for all the support the last years!! You really makes this worth while, and I hope to see everyone again very soon. Keep the spirit up,metal forever!!
