Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. It is a good idea to read the most recent entries at the bottom of the Talk page of an existing article before making major changes to it, to see if your proposed change has been discussed before. Before I make a major change to an article, I often make a proposal on the Talk page to see if anyone minds.
Again, welcome! -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:09, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Ssilvers, Thanks I appreciate it. I like most of your changes, there are just a few that it would be great to figure out how to resolve. Understood about repetition, especially about the creative team. It was the same on the West End in 2022 and 2023 with just one addition for Broadway, so I will look at changing that (names in the West End, reference to the team for Broadway). Why did you delete the box office info? It mirrors the box office comment about the 2010 production. I am not sure I will have time to add historical data about the important 2010 and 2012 Broadway productions (reviews, box office, etc.), but I will try. VeritasRules (talk) 12:05, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- BTW the music supervisor is an important part of the creative team (it is not the conductor role). VeritasRules (talk) 12:52, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Unless this role is held by a notable person (blue-linked), we do not mention it. Because it was trivial box office info, not about the entire run, or a historic record, but 4th in a mere week. We normally do not include box office info unless there is something extraordinary about it, say the entire history of Les Mis to date, or something like that. Sometimes we say that a play recouped its costs on such-and-such a date. But weekly Broadway grosses are super trivial. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:03, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. Understood about the box office. Re the creative team, you will find that the majority do not have Wikipedia pages. The music supervisor in the case of Elf just won an Olivier Award (the UK equivalent of the Tonys) for his musical contribution to the Sunset Boulevard production that originated in the West End and that is currently a hit on Broadway. VeritasRules (talk) 22:15, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- No rush on the other productions. BTW, always put refs after the punctuation mark. Happy editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:16, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- The reason they do not have Wikipedia pages is because the position is not of encyclopedic interest. For example, there is no Tony Award for it. The Olivier Awards are a little more liberal with their "musical contributions" category, but I don't think music supervisors usually get an Olivier there either -- usually they have to also orchestrate or arrange. Since this person won an Olivier, however, feel free to write a Wikipedia article about him. Then we can name him. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:16, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for all the feedback. Olivier Awards: Yes, since 2024, they have renamed this category https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurence_Olivier_Award_for_Outstanding_Musical_Contribution. Alan Williams won for his work on Sunset Boulevard (musical supervisor and director). I do not think I will have time to write a Wikipedia article about Alan Williams, but I will keep the suggestion in mind. In any case, the Elf (musical) page is now much more complete. VeritasRules (talk) 23:17, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Good work on that. -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:20, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! VeritasRules (talk) 23:32, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Where a byline is stated in a source, please put the author's name in your cites. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:37, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
